Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.
HP Recommended

I have an HP OfficeJet Pro 9130b that I cant login to for changing any settings.
I have tried the PIN / SN / 1234 / admin for default passwords, but no luck.
The printer has a touch screen and a power button. No other visible buttons.
I need to get the admin password reset. I will list some of the steps Ive tried already.

  1. Reboot the printer.
  2. Once the HP logo appears, tap the four corners of the screen in this specific order: Top-LeftTop-RightBottom-RightBottom-Left.

  1. Turn the printer ON.
  2. Immediately when the HP logo appears, tap the center of the touchscreen once.

  1. With the printer ON, remove all ink cartridges and close the door.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the back while the printer is running.
  3. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds while it is unplugged to drain the motherboard.
  4. Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet (do not use a surge protector).
  5. Turn the printer back on. It may detect a "Power Failure" and offer a Reset or Restore option on the screen.

  1. While the printer is ON, pull the power cord directly out of the back of the machine. Do not turn it off first.
  2. Disconnect the other end of the cord from the wall outlet.
  3. Wait a full 2 minutes. This is critical to clear the temporary memory (NVRAM) that stores the password lock.
  4. Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds while the printer is still unplugged.
  5. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet first, then into the printer.
  6. Immediately as the HP logo appears, press and hold your finger on the Top-Left corner (the Back arrow area) and keep it there for 10–20 seconds.
  7. If the screen says "Permanent Storage Init," release your finger. The printer will wipe all settings, including the admin password.

  1. Connect the printer to a PC via USB.
  2. Open HP Smart and select Printer Settings.
  3. Navigate to Advanced Settings.
  4. If it asks for a password and the PIN fails, go to the Tools tab and look for System Maintenance. Some versions allow a "Factory Reset" via USB that bypasses the screen lockout.

  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • While the door is open, press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds.
  • Close the door. This sometimes triggers a "Hardware Error" screen that allows you to select Reset.
  1. Unplug the printer while it is still ON.
  2. Wait 30 seconds.
  3. Press and hold your fingers on the Top-Right and Bottom-Right corners of the touchscreen simultaneously.
  4. While holding both corners, plug the power cord back in.
  5. Continue holding until you see "Permanent Storage Init" or the screen flashes white.

Hi @555Mark,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 9130b admin password is locked and you want to reset the printer to regain access to settings. Let’s go through a few steps that can help reset the printer configuration.

Perform a semi-full power reset
Turn the printer on, then unplug the power cord from the back while it is still powered on.
Wait 60 seconds, reconnect the power cable, and allow the printer to fully restart.

Try restoring factory defaults from the control panel
On the touchscreen, go to Setup → Printer Maintenance → Restore → Restore Factory Defaults if the menu is accessible.
This removes stored settings, including administrator configuration.

Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) reset option
Find the printer’s IP address from the control panel or network report.
Open a browser and enter the IP address, then look for Settings → Restore Defaults.

Reset network settings
From the control panel, open Network Setup → Restore Network Settings.
This clears wireless configuration and can remove some locked configuration states.

Re-add the printer in HP Smart after reset
Open HP Smart, remove the existing printer entry, then add it again.
This ensures the printer initializes with default configuration values.

Try the default administrator credentials after reset
After restoring defaults, try logging in using:

Username: admin

Password: PIN from the printer label or screen

Important note:
On newer HP OfficeJet Pro models like the 9130b, the administrator password is stored in secure memory, and only a successful factory-default restore from the printer firmware will clear it. Power-drain procedures alone typically do not reset the admin password.

Also, if the password was set manually and the reset option cannot be accessed from the control panel or EWS, the printer may continue to require the existing admin credentials until configuration storage is cleared.

I hope this helps.

I tried your suggested steps, but nothing has changed.  Everything still requires a login.

Turn the printer on, then unplug the power cord from the back while it is still powered on. Wait 60 seconds, reconnect the power cable, and allow the printer to fully restart.
Try restoring factory defaults from the control panel On the touchscreen, go to Setup → Printer Maintenance → Restore → Restore Factory Defaults if the menu is accessible. This removes stored settings, including administrator configuration.

Setup not an option on the screen
Menu > Tools > Maintenance (requires login)

Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) reset option Find the printer’s IP address from the control panel or network report. Open a browser and enter the IP address, then look for Settings → Restore Defaults.
Reset network settings

Settings not an option in EWS
All network settings require login
General > Restore Default Settings (requires login)

From the control panel, open Network Setup → Restore Network Settings. This clears wireless configuration and can remove some locked configuration states.
Re-add the printer in HP Smart after reset Open HP Smart, remove the existing printer entry, then add it again. This ensures the printer initializes with default configuration values.
Try the default administrator credentials after reset After restoring defaults, try logging in using:
Username: admin
Password: PIN from the printer label or screen

No network setup on control panel

Following these steps, I dont see a chat option, or other listed.
The Virtual assistant only gives me the option of the HP Support Community.

You must be able to factory reset a printer, i just need the correct steps for this model printner.
