Hi @Wolftech1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Resetting the admin password for an HP OfficeJet Pro 8740 printer typically involves performing a factory reset. Please note that performing a factory reset will erase all settings on the printer, including wireless network settings and custom configurations. Before proceeding, make sure you have a record of your network settings and any other custom settings you want to reconfigure after the reset.

Here are the steps to reset the admin password:

  • Turn on the printer if it's not already on.
  • Make sure the printer is in a ready state.
  • On the printer's control panel, press the "Home" button or touch the home icon to access the home screen.
  • Use the touchscreen to navigate to the "Setup" menu. You may need to scroll through the options to find it.
  • Scroll down and select "Tools."
  • In the "Tools" menu, select "Restore Factory Defaults." This option might also be labeled as "Restore Factory Settings" or something similar.
  • Confirm that you want to perform the factory reset. The printer will start the process.
  • Once the factory reset is complete, the printer will restart. This may take a few minutes.
  • After the printer has restarted, it will be restored to its factory settings, including the default admin password.

The default admin password for most HP printers is often set to "admin" or "password." Try logging in using one of these default passwords.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
