HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 All-in-One Printer
macOS 15.0 Sequoia

Air printing from multiple different macOS devices intermittently results in blurred pages. This is noticed often on the first print request after the image is loaded in the print preview. The print preview screen does not indicate any blurring but the final print result is blurred. This is especially a problem as it happens when using iPhone, IPad, and IMac devices. The printer has done all of the maintenance issues as cleaning print heads and alignment.  This is a waste of consumables and much frustration. Please advise ASAP.

Hi @RcPrint2025,

When experiencing blurred printouts from your HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 All-in-One Printer, particularly with AirPrint from macOS devices, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

  1. Check Printer Settings: Make sure the print settings on your macOS devices are correctly configured for the best quality. Check that the resolution is set to high quality and that no draft or economy settings are enabled.

  2. Update Firmware: Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. Firmware updates can resolve issues with printing quality and improve performance. You can check for and install firmware updates through your printer's control panel or the HP Smart app.

  3. Driver Updates: Confirm that all your macOS devices have the latest printer drivers. You can find the most recent drivers on the HP Support website. Although AirPrint generally doesn't require specific drivers, any available updates can sometimes improve functionality.

  4. Connection Stability: Ensure a stable network connection among your printer and macOS devices. Intermittent or weak Wi-Fi signals may affect print quality. If possible, try using a wired connection for the printer to see if it improves the results.

  5. Print from Different Devices: Try printing from another application or using a different device to see if the issue is isolated to specific files or apps.

  6. Test Different Media: Occasionally, certain types of paper can contribute to print quality issues. Ensure the paper is compatible with your printer and in excellent condition; try using different paper to see if the issue persists.

  7. Maintenance and Cleaning: Although you've mentioned performing printer maintenance, it may be useful to run additional cleaning cycles, particularly for printheads, and ensure that all components are free from dust or obstructions.

  8. System and App Updates: Make sure that your iPhones, iPads, and iMac are running the latest versions of iOS and macOS, respectively. Updates often include patches and improvements that can affect AirPrint performance.

  9. Use HP App: For troubleshooting purposes, try printing using the HP app rather than AirPrint. This might help determine if the problem is related to AirPrint.
