Hi @Sandyb1629,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're encountering an error message while attempting to set up Wi-Fi on your HP Deskjet 3520 printer using WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup), there are several troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue.

  • Check WPS Compatibility: Ensure that your router supports WPS and that it's enabled. Sometimes, newer routers might have WPS disabled by default.
  • Printer Placement: Ensure that the printer is placed within the range of your Wi-Fi network and the WPS signal from the router. Weak signals can cause connection issues.
  • WPS Button: Some routers require you to press a physical WPS button on the router before initiating WPS on the printer. Check your router's manual for instructions on how to do this.
  • Printer Display: Monitor the printer's display panel for any error messages or prompts during the setup process. The error message you mentioned ("progress stopped") may be more specific on the printer's display.
  • Reboot Router and Printer: Try rebooting both your router and the printer. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues.
  • Update Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. Outdated firmware can sometimes cause compatibility issues.
  • Manual Setup: If WPS continues to fail, consider manually configuring the Wi-Fi settings on your printer. You'll need to access the printer's settings menu and enter your Wi-Fi network's SSID (network name) and password.
  • Disable Firewall/Antivirus: Temporarily disable any firewall or antivirus software on your computer during the setup process. Sometimes, these programs can interfere with network setup.
  • Reset Printer Network Settings: If you've previously attempted to connect the printer to a different network, reset the network settings on your printer to start fresh. Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on how to do this.
  • Check for Interference: Make sure there are no devices or objects causing interference between the printer and the router. Electronic devices, walls, and large metal objects can obstruct signals.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
