I purchased a new office jet pro 8030 series today and was assisted with setup by HP, but the drivers would not install and HP discover that my drivers on my MAC computer had been corrupted.  The HP rep said he was only a printer person, but could check with his superiors to see if they had other help.  He came back and said they could help. I gave him more info about me and he gave me the fee for the help and then gave me a customer id number and a **bleep** number.  Before we could go further my son-in-law stuck the HP Fraud page under my nose and told me to get offline. I didn't know what else to do at the moment and did so.  Now when I try to get help from HP and use my SS# the massage that it is temporarily closed and to try later comes up and I can't get any further with support.  I now would like to call the **bleep** number and give them my Customer Id number and try to get  help, but should I be concerned about the possible the Fraud issue?  I need to use my printer and I need help.  HELP

Welcome to the HP Community --

Whomever you contacted is not HP.

If you are asked for your Social Security number for ANYTHING related to computer or printer assistance, it is a Scam.

Worse, it is a scam of the worst type - identity theft, complete destruction of life as you know it.

Short Version:  Do Not call numbers you find on the Internet if you want to contact HP.

Long Version:  Whoever you contacted was not HP -- doesn't matter who they were, they were not HP.

HP Support does not free-post contact phone numbers on the Internet,

HP Support does not sell security products,

HP Support does not tell you your computer is full of bugs,

HP Support does not beg, cajole, or threaten you,

HP Support  does not sneak into your computer,

HP Support does not pass you to Scammers and Thieves

Not.

My suggestion:

  • Don't contact these people again.
  • Don't call their phone numbers.
  • Don't go near their website again.

Listen to your son-in-law and don't be a victim.

I will forward your message to our Moderator team for evaluation.

Should there be a response, look for a message here before the agent uses other means to contact you.

Beware of Fake Sites

The "Real Deal"

123.hp.com - Printer setup from the HP® Official site

https://123.hp.com/

The official HP 123 site is where you can find the appropriate (and free) software and drivers for your printer.

There are many “fake” sites listed (in search engines) for “123” – please make sure you are using the actual “HP” site.

If you are asked for money to correct "issues" on your printer or computer OR if the “help” wants to log into your computer, you are using a “fake” site. Do not give these people your information!
