I have a CP1525nw printer and recently replaced my router. I can no longer connect it to Wifi. WPS fails. I have connected with an ethernet cable and manually entered the wifi info, but it still doesn't connect. There seems to be a way using software called "HP Printer Assistant", but that software is not listed on the HP support website for my printer. I can connect with USB and print. Help!

Hi @TripleFJeff,
Thank you for the response.
Here's what you can try next:
Temporarily Disable 5 GHz and Use Only 2.4 GHz
Even though your router supports both, older printers like the CP1525nw can get confused:
Go to your router settings (usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1).
Temporarily disable 5 GHz band, or rename the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz SSIDs differently (like: MyWiFi-2G and MyWiFi-5G) so you can target 2.4 GHz specifically.
Re-attempt setup via EWS.
Switch from WPA3 to WPA2 Encryption
The CP1525nw may not understand WPA3 encryption (common in new routers).
On your router’s Wi-Fi security settings, make sure it’s set to:
WPA2 (AES) or WPA2-PSK (AES)
Not WPA3 or Mixed WPA2/WPA3
Assign a Static IP
Sometimes DHCP bugs out:
While connected via Ethernet, log in to the printer's EWS.
Under Networking > IPv4 Configuration, set:
Manual IP (same range as your router, e.g. 192.168.1.100)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: Your router IP (e.g., 192.168.1.1)
Then configure the Wireless settings.
Disconnect Ethernet and restart the printer.
Forget Old Access Points in the Printer
The CP1525nw might be hanging onto a previous access point config that’s now invalid.
Go to the EWS > Wireless Settings, and do a Restore Wireless Defaults again.
Then retry connection cleanly.
Check for Hidden MAC Filtering
Even if your router says “MAC filtering is off,” it may still be:
Whitelist only mode by default (especially true on some ISPs or mesh systems).
Just to be safe: Go to your router’s MAC filtering section and add the printer's MAC address manually as an allowed device.
MAC address is listed on the Network Config Page.
I hope this helps.

Hi @TripleFJeff,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Verify Network Settings
Ensure your network settings match after the router replacement:
- Confirm the new router’s Wi-Fi name (SSID) and password.
- Make sure your router is set to broadcast the 2.4 GHz frequency, as some older printers may not support 5 GHz.
Reset Network Settings on the Printer
Clear previous network settings on your printer:
- Press the Setup button on the printer’s control panel.
- Navigate to Network Setup > Restore Defaults.
- Confirm the reset. This will delete any old network settings.
Connect via Ethernet to Configure Wi-Fi
Since you're able to connect via Ethernet, use it to configure Wi-Fi:
- Connect your printer to your router with an Ethernet cable.
- Print a Network Configuration Page:
- Press the Setup button.
- Navigate to Reports > Network Configuration Page.
- Open your web browser and enter the IP address listed on the Network Configuration Page to access the printer’s embedded web server (EWS).
Configure Wi-Fi Through the Embedded Web Server (EWS)
Use the printer’s EWS to configure Wi-Fi settings:
- Open the EWS and navigate to the Networking tab.
- Select Wireless Setup Wizard.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to connect to your new Wi-Fi network.
Use HP Printer Assistant
If you were previously using HP Printer Assistant but can’t find it for your printer model, try the following:
- Download and install the latest drivers and software for the CP1525nw from the HP Support Page.
- During the installation, choose Wireless connection and follow the prompts to set up your printer on the new network.
Print Wireless Network Test Page
Check the status of the Wi-Fi connection:
- Press the Setup button.
- Navigate to Reports > Wireless Network Test.
- Print the report and review any issues highlighted.
Update Printer Firmware
Kindly refer to this link to update your printer firmware.
I hope this helps.

I have done these steps except for the firmware, but the firmware hasn't changed since 2014
I can connect through ethernet, then using the EWS it allows me to pick the SSID from a list and enter the password. When it's done, it says that I need to disconnect the ethernet in order to enable the wireless. When I do that, it doesn't connect.
I printed the test report and it says that "No FIltering" = Fail and "MAC address filtering may be enabled", but I checked and it is not.
I should note that the router I replaced was really just an access point for another router that didn't change. I tried to connect directly to the wireless on that router and I get the same thing.

The issue was the WPA2/3. The only way to disable the WPA3 was to turn off the 6GHz. If 6GHz is on it has to be set to WPA2/WPA3 since 6Ghz is WPA3 only and there is no way to set it individually for each band. To set it up initially I had 5GHz off, but now with 5GHz on it still connects.
