HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e All-in-One Printer

Hello,

I have a Windows 10 Pro laptop, a iPhone 13 Pro, and a HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e printer. My printer is connected to my laptop via a USB cable. There are no problems with this set-up. It works perfectly. I also have Wi-Fi via my Wi-Fi router, and it’s set-up and running fine. My iPhone uses this Wi-Fi all the time without any problems. But I would like to turn on the printer’s wireless system so I can print from my iPhone. I’m tired of emailing myself things I want to print and then going to my laptop to pull them out of my email folder and printing them off.

My question: Is it possible to simultaneously connect my laptop to my printer via USB and (at the same time) connect my iPhone to my printer via wireless? Or does my 8025e printer need to be completely wireless (with my laptop and iPhone) in order to use that wireless feature with my iPhone?

The reason I ask is I came across this article on the HP website and I don’t know how old it is, but it says,

“The printer can be connected by a USB cable to a computer and also be connected to a wireless network. Both USB and wireless connections can be active and used at the same time. At the end of the conversion process, you may be given the option to either keep or delete the USB printer driver. If you choose to keep it, you will have two printer icons with the printer’s model name in the computer’s printer folder. One icon will be the printer originally installed and used over the USB connection. The second icon was just installed and should be used when using the printer over the network connection.”

Is that correct? I have the 8025e manual and it doesn’t say anything about simultaenous connections except that the wireless will not work if there is an Ethernet cable in the printer (but USB isn't Ethernet, right?). Can the 8025e simulanteously do USB and wireless (no Ethernet)? If so, then is it possible for me to change one of the two printer icons in the computer's printer folder so I know the difference between USB and the wireless (how do you tell which one is for USB and which one is wireless?)? Will there be any conflict between these two models? I never use HP Smart (I don't subscribe to HP Instant Ink), preferring to use the "old-school" full-installation software packet (I've found there are fewer problems that way). I do have the HP Smart app on my computer, though.

Can anyone answer these questions?

Thank you.

Keep the USB connection on your PC if it works don't mess with it.

Install the HP Smart app on your smartphone to use the HP printer wirelessly.

Thank you for your reply. I want to make sure I understand you correctly. You are saying that I can download and install the HP Smart app onto my iPhone 13 Pro and that will help me print documents and photos from my iPhone via the 8025e printer without having to make any changes? I can just download and install HP Smart onto my iPhone and print to my printer just like that?

What's the difference between using HP Smart versus using WI-FI Direct on the iPhone? I'm leery of using HP Smart because it's not the best app (I hate it!) so I'm trying to avoid using HP Smart unless I have to in order to achieve what I want to do, which is both a USB connection between my laptop and the printer and a wireless connection between my iPhone and the printer.

Thank you.
