Welcome to the HP User Community.
The printer firmware is not going to be updated for this model.
The printer is not supported in Windows 10 except using the built-in Windows print drivers that provide basic print function.
There will be no further upgrades for this printer.
Yes, in my opinion,
You need a newer printer to take advantage of newer printer network technology.
Notes / FYI
- Even new printers (at this writing) require that they are connected to an SSID named network for the band / frequency they are expected to use.
- Printers do not like "hopping" - switch this option off in the router to prevent the printer from suddenly losing connection.
- Unless you are using Wi-Fi Direct (network without a router) >> Remember to always switch OFF Wi-Fi Direct on the printer.
Example - Dual Band Network
