A printer that was stolen from my home is now online. Can I get the IP address?

@Choose2Love,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Unfortunately, HP does not provide a way for end users to track stolen printers or retrieve their IP addresses remotely.

However, here are some steps you can take:

1. Check HP Smart or HP Connected (if enabled):

  • If you had an HP account linked to the printer (such as HP Smart or HP Instant Ink), try logging into HP Smart or HP Connected to see if any information about the printer is available.
  • Some HP services may display the printer’s status, but they do not typically provide an IP address.

2. Check Your Router or Cloud Services:

  • If you have remote access to your home router or a network monitoring tool, check if the printer is still attempting to connect.
  • Some routers log the last known MAC address of connected devices.

3. Report the Theft to Authorities:

  • Since the printer is online, it means someone is actively using it. Your local police department may be able to request assistance from HP or the Internet Service Provider (ISP) based on the serial number.
  • If you have proof of ownership (receipt, serial number, etc.), provide it when filing a report.

4. Contact HP Support:

  • If your printer was registered with HP, you can contact HP Support to report it as stolen. HP may be able to flag the serial number in their system.

5. Secure Your Personal Information:

  • If the printer had saved credentials (HP account, Wi-Fi settings, email, etc.), be sure to change any linked passwords.
  • If an SD card or USB storage was connected, assume any stored files may be accessed by the new user perp.

Unfortunately, HP does not offer a built-in printer tracking service. Unless you had network monitoring set up beforehand, you likely won’t be able to retrieve the IP address yourself. I recommend following up with local law enforcement and HP Support for further assistance.

Kind Regards,
