Netgear R6250 Router w/ USB ReadyShare option
OfficeJet 6500A Plus E710n printer
I previously had a Netgear router and we were sharing the printer over wifi, it would lose connection frequently (router/printer within 3 ft) but I could always get it connected again. I replaced my router with the above Netgear R6250. I CANNOT get the printer to connect to a computer, although all settings are correct (gets a DHCP address, recognizes the SSID/password, etc and Wireless Test Page says all is fine, configurations all pass, signal quality is excellent. But,the computer still shows the printer is offline (I have an extender in another area with the same SSID, which may be the problem, but it's difficult for me to believe the extender signal can reach this far). So, I'm now trying to setup the 6500A Plus printer using Netgear's ReadyShare option. It says to download the driver's for this from the printer's manufacturer website (HP). When running the setup for the driver, I only get the option to use a USB connection if I'm connecting a computer directly to the computer. The network options are only by wireless or ethernet cable. So, does the OfficeJet 6500A Plus E710n even support ReadyShare from a router?
Thanks!

Hi,
Why wouldn't you switch to ethernet connection to the router?
This would would be more recommended and bypass such limitations of the extended, as well would provide full functionality such as scanning, unlike connecting the printer to a print server which only allow printer sharing and involve your router configuration as well.
Regardless, for your riginal query of using a pritn server, you cannot install the HP Software through a Print Server, only install the drivers and then configure a print queue using the router's utility, please consult below user manual from Netgear:

My router didn't have any open ethernet ports on my router. Or so I thought.😎 I found that one of the ethernet cables was, in fact, empty on the other end! 🙄 I finally got the wifi working (see below), too but ended up using the ethernet to rid us of the frequent connection problems we've had in the past.
What I was doing wrong... I had set a static IP on my last Netgear router of 192.168.0.35. I failed to reserve this IP on the new Netgear router. BUT, at first, even that didn't work because my new router's default ip is 192.168.1.1, whereas my old router was 192.168.0.1. I've used Netgear routers forever and they used to ALWAYS be the .0.1. Other brands were 1.1. So, once I changed the static IP on my printer to 192.168.1.35 and reserved that correct IP address on my router -> TA DA! Imagine that, it worked!😆
I still have no explanation as to why the wireless test page printout said the printer was connected to wifi successfully, with the wrong IP address.
Stupid mistake. I used to do internal tech support for AT&T and IBM, but have been retired for several years now.
It's amazing how quickly you can forget what used to be second nature.
Thanks for your response.
