Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

We received a new router box, we have a new a new IP address and a new name for our internet. We can’t connect the printer to the new router.

The details make a difference.

 

Based on what we know --

 

Product / Printer Model:  ?

Operating System:  ?

Software / Application:  ?

Connection Type:  ?

Content / File Type:  ?

Paper Size / Type: ?

Job type: Configure new network

 

First,

  1. Restore Network Defaults / Install / Connect – Inkjet and Laser printers
  2. Connect printer to network

HP printer setup (Wi-Fi network)

HP Smart and USB cable

 

AND / OR

 

After the printer is stripped of the old network,

Add the new network as explained in your printer's User Guide.

 

What else?

 

If you can access the printer using its current IP address,

Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to mange / modify the network settings.

 

- Important -

Do NOT Restore the printer to Factory Defaults unless you are able / ready to re-enter all the printer settings.

 

EWS > HP Document / How-to (InkJet Printers – Classic Format)

 Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

NOTE:  Find printer IP address

Section Open the EWS over a local network orientation

OR

 HP Laser Printers - Using the Printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

 

Need the PIN to open some settings / sections in EWS?

Find the PIN location as explained in your printer's User Guide.

The Default PIN might be located in the ink cartridge area, the back, side, or even the bottom.

 

Classic EWS - Select / Older InkJet Printers

 

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Settings > Restore Defaults > Restore Factory Defaults / Restore Network Settings / HP Secure Erase

 

OR

Select newer InkJet Printers and select Laser Printers

 

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Section General > Restore Default Settings > Restore Network Settings OR Restore All Factory Defaults

 

Example - EWS - newer format / select InkJet and select Laser printers - Restore Default Settings

NOTE:  Find printer IP address

Section Open the EWS over a local network orientation

Older / Select InkJet Printers - IPv4 

 

Ethernet

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Network > Wired (802.3) > IPv4 Configuration

 

Wireless

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Network > Wireless (802.11) > IPv4 Configuration

As Available:

Tab Network > Wireless (802.11) > Advanced

 

Section Advanced

Network Interface on / off, Network SSID name, Security Settings, Passphrase / Password

Select and connect to the correct SSID / network name for the bandwidth you are using.

 

Notes

  • It is not mandatory that you use a manual / static IP address.  Doing so can improve stability.
  • If you assign a manual / static address on the printer, update your router to reflect the assigned IP address.

 

Example - Older / Select InkJet Printers - IPv4

Section Network > Primary Ethernet > Check / Adjust Status and other tabs...

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Section Network > Wi-Fi > Section IP Config > IPv4

 

Notes

  • It is not mandatory that you use a manual / static IP address.  Doing so can improve stability.
  • If needful and if supported, set the Band Frequency to the frequency you want the printer to use.
  • If you assign a manual / static address on the printer, update your router to reflect the assigned IP address.
