HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

My computer & printer are both on the same wireless network.  The printer will no longer print what I send from my computer, but will scan to my computer.  When I run the HP print & scan Doctor it does not complete connecting to my printer.

@Rosekran, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-in-One Printer.

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution. We hope our assistance has been helpful!

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 can scan documents to your computer but cannot print, it suggests a possible issue with the printing setup or communication between the devices. Below are steps you can take to resolve this problem:

  1. Check Printer Status:

    • Make sure that the printer is turned on and has paper and ink/toner.
    • Ensure there are no error messages or blinking lights on the printer's control panel.
  2. Restart Devices:

    • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
    • Restart your computer.
    • Plug the printer back in and turn it on after a couple of minutes.
  3. Verify Network Connection:

    • Ensure both the printer and computer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
    • Run a network test from the printer’s control panel to confirm the wireless connection.
  4. Reinstall Printer Drivers:

    • Go to the HP website and download the latest drivers for your printer model.
    • Uninstall the existing printer drivers on your computer, then reinstall using the newly downloaded drivers.
  5. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor Again:

    • Open the HP Print and Scan Doctor, select your printer, and let it find and fix any issues.
    • Follow any on-screen instructions for resolving detected issues.
  6. Check Printer Queue:

    • On your computer, go to 'Devices and Printers' in the Control Panel.
    • Right-click your printer icon, select ‘See what’s printing,’ and clear any stuck print jobs in the queue.
  7. Disable Firewall or Security Software Temporarily:

    • Sometimes, security software can block communication between the printer and computer. Temporarily disable your firewall or security software and try printing again.
  8. Update Printer Firmware:

    • Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer model on the HP website, and follow instructions to update the printer firmware.

I hope this helps!

Take care and have an amazing day!
