HP Envy Photo 7975 All-in-One Printer

My HP Envy7975 Scanner will not connect to my computer, but I can print from my computer to the printer.  The screen on my printer tells me to download the HP app when I try to scan, which I have downloaded on my computer.

Hello @bamachile, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Since you can print but not scan, this is a connection/scan-setup issue rather than basic networking. Use the HP app and the printer’s scan features to restore scanning.

1. Confirm HP app setup and printer connection

  • On your computer, open the HP app.
  • On the HP app home screen, make sure your ENVY 7975 is listed and not marked as “Not connected”. - If it shows “Not connected” or similar:
    • Make sure the printer and computer are on the same Wi‑Fi network.
    • Ensure the printer is within about 8 m / 26 ft of the router.
    • Check that the printer’s power cable is plugged directly into a wall outlet.
  • In the HP app, select your printer and verify that Scan is available and works: - Load a document on the glass/ADF. - Select Scan, choose source, then start a scan.

If scanning from the HP app works, the basic connection is fine, and the next steps will enable scanning from the printer’s screen.

2. Remove and re-add the printer in the HP app

  • In the HP app, go to the home screen, select your printer.
  • Scroll to the bottom and select Remove device.
  • Confirm with Remove device from app.
  • On the HP app home screen, select the “+” icon.
  • Select Set up a new printer.
  • When your ENVY 7975 appears, select it, then Setup.
  • Follow the prompts to reconnect the printer to Wi‑Fi and finish setup.
  • When you return to the HP app home screen, try Scan again.

3. Use the HP app Shortcuts to enable Scan from the printer

For features like Scan to Email or Scan to Cloud, you must enable printer access:

  • Open the HP app and sign in to your HP account.
  • Select your printer, then Shortcuts.
  • Select the Settings icon.
  • Enable Printer Access, choose an access duration, then select Save and Done.

Now on the printer’s touchscreen:

  • Tap Scan.
  • Choose Scan to Email or Scan to Cloud.
  • Follow on-screen prompts and complete a test scan.

4. Run Diagnose & Fix (if you’re on a desktop/laptop)

If you’re using the HP app on a Windows or macOS desktop:

  • In the HP app, select your printer.
  • Scroll to Diagnostics, then select Diagnose & Fix.
  • Click Start and wait for it to complete.
  • Follow any instructions provided, then try scanning again.

5. Install the full feature software and drivers.

Have a great day!

I'm an HP Employee.
