Hi @MagicTouch1217,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're unable to find your printer in the HP Smart app, here are some troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue.
Verify Printer and Device Connection
- Ensure that your printer is powered on and connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your device (PC, laptop, or smartphone).
- Confirm that your device is connected to Wi-Fi and not to a mobile network or a different Wi-Fi band.
Reset Network Settings on Printer
If the printer was previously used at another location (like the middle school), reset the network settings:
- Locate the Wi-Fi button or reset option on the printer (refer to the printer's manual for specifics).
- Most HP printers reset by:
- Pressing and holding the Wi-Fi button and Cancel button (if available) for 3-5 seconds.
- Alternatively, restore settings through the printer's control panel under Setup > Network > Restore Network Settings.
Reconnect Printer to Wi-Fi
After resetting the network:
- Open the HP Smart app and follow the guided steps for Add a Printer.
- Choose the Wi-Fi setup option:
- For touchscreen printers: Use the control panel to navigate to Network Setup or Wireless Setup Wizard.
- For non-touchscreen printers: Use the HP Smart app to configure Wi-Fi.
Check Compatibility with HP Smart
Ensure your printer supports the HP Smart app. If you're unsure, share your printer's model number, and I can confirm.
Disable VPN or Firewall (if applicable)
If you have a VPN or firewall enabled, it might block the printer's detection:
- Disable the VPN or firewall temporarily and retry connecting the printer.
Restart Devices
- Restart your printer, Wi-Fi router, and the device running HP Smart.
- After restarting, open the HP Smart app and click Add a Printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
