My printer is brand new. I've only used it a few times in my classroom. I know the ink is low but it still will not print anything when I hook the usb cord from the printer to my laptop. It's not working. I can make copies but that's it. I need my printer as a teacher.l

Hi @Reesey2026,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I  understand how important it is for you to have the printer in your classroom  especially when you need to prepare materials quickly. I’ll do my best to help get this sorted out for you.

Could you please share the printer model number

In the meantime, here are a few steps you can try:

  1. Check USB connection: Make sure the USB cable is firmly connected to both the printer and your laptop. If possible, try a different USB port or cable.
  2. Install printer drivers: If the printer drivers aren’t installed, your laptop may not recognize the printer. You can download the latest drivers from the HP Support website-  https://support.hp.com/  by searching your printer model.
  3. Set printer as default: On your laptop, go to “Printers & Scanners” settings and ensure your HP printer is set as the default device.
  4. Restart devices: Restart both your printer and laptop, then reconnect the USB cable.
  5. Check print queue: Sometimes jobs get stuck in the queue. Clear any pending documents and try printing again.

You can also find the link here explaining about the USB printing problems  - Click here  and the HP printer setup (USB cable) -  Click here .

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
