How do I use the printer without it appearing to everybody else in the building?

It should be printed on the box. "You cannot do anything without internet access."

Thank you for providing all the information I already know. i can use Wi-Fi Direct but it shows up publicly on every PC, mac and android device within wireless range. I should be able to use Wi-Fi directed without it appearing to devices other than those I enter the name into. Like my mobile I should be able to create a hidden name and connect to it from a device where I have entered that name and no other device ever sees the name.Wi-Fi Direct advertises itself as if I'm trying to set up a printer for everyone in the area where I live.

Using USB is fine but without allowing the printer to talk to HP.com I would be paying fortunes for the Ink. The discounted InstantInk process complained that my printer was turned off. I don't leave it on all the time. This is not some public facility.

I can print from all apps on my PC without anything other than the HP Smart installed. I don't even start HP Smart unless I am scanning.

Your response provides nothing I didn't already know. Expert? Clearly expert at typing the info that is already publicly available.

Right - nothing to see here.

I think I did not understand that I cannot add to what you already know.

I shall withdraw to make room for someone who can help.
