Hi @ekd1957,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're facing some issues with the WiFi setup on your new HP OfficeJet Pro 9010e printer, especially during the stage where you need to connect it to the HP software. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve this issue:

Restart Your Devices: Begin by restarting your printer, router, and smartphone. This can resolve many connection issues by refreshing the network settings.

Check Your Network Settings:

  • Network Compatibility: Ensure your wireless network is 2.4 GHz, as many printers may not support 5 GHz networks.
  • Signal Strength: Ensure the printer is within a good range of your wireless router.

Direct Printer Setup:

  • Try setting up the WiFi connection directly from the printer's control panel. Navigate to the WiFi settings on the printer's display, select your network, and enter the WiFi password.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Sometimes, updating the printer’s firmware can resolve compatibility issues. Check if there’s an option directly on the printer under settings or maintenance to check for firmware updates.

HP Smart App:

  • Ensure that the HP Smart app on your phone is updated to the latest version.
  • Open the app and try to connect to the printer again. Make sure that your phone is connected to the same WiFi network that you are trying to connect the printer to.

Manual IP Address Assignment:

  • If the printer is not obtaining an IP address automatically, you might need to set a static IP address manually. You can find this option under the advanced network settings on your printer’s control panel.

Disable VPN or Other Network Tools: If you have a VPN or other network management tools active on your smartphone, try disabling them as they can interfere with network connections and device discovery.

Check for Interference: Other devices can interfere with the wireless signal. Make sure there are no large metal objects, microwaves, or other electronics between your router and the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
