I recently upgraded my router through Xfinity. After I connected the router, I could no longer connect my HP Envy 5530 to the wireless network. Any ideas on what to try to connect it or do I need a new printer?

Hi @Teamcasi,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Envy 5530 can no longer connect to Wi-Fi after you upgraded your Xfinity router. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this and get it reconnected.

Restart the printer and new router
Turn off the printer and unplug the Xfinity router for 1–2 minutes.
Plug the router back in first, wait until it is fully online, then turn the printer back on.

Reset the printer’s network settings
On the printer, press and hold the Cancel (X) and Wireless buttons together for about 5 seconds.
The blue wireless light should start blinking, indicating setup mode.

Connect to the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network
The HP Envy 5530 supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only.
If your new Xfinity router uses a combined network name, make sure 2.4 GHz is enabled and not restricted.

Temporarily disable advanced router features
Turn off features such as WPA3-only security, MAC address filtering, or device isolation.
Set Wi-Fi security to WPA2 during setup, then retry connecting the printer.

Use HP Smart to reconnect the printer
Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
Choose “Add printer” or “Set up a new printer” and follow the prompts to connect it to Wi-Fi.

Move the printer closer to the router
Place the printer within a few feet of the router during setup.
Weak signal during initial connection can cause setup to fail.

Disable VPNs or firewalls temporarily
Turn off any VPN, security software, or Private DNS on the device used for setup.
These can block the printer from completing Wi-Fi registration.

Confirm the printer gets an IP address
After setup, check that the wireless light is solid blue.
If available, print a wireless test report to confirm an IP address is assigned.

Try adding the printer by IP address
If the printer connects but doesn’t appear on your device, use the IP address to add it manually.
This bypasses discovery issues caused by router changes.

I hope this helps.

I am struggling to find a cancel button on the printer. I am also cannot find the settings pasted below on my Xfinity app or when I log in to the router. I do have other devices that seem to be connecting to 2.4ghz. I am not able to connect the printer to the wireless yet. I do not have any advanced features enabled.

Hi @Teamcasi,

Thank you for the response.

Let’s go through this step by step in a simple, clear way.

Locate the Cancel button on the HP Envy 5530
The Cancel button is the red “X” icon on the printer’s touch panel.
It may not be labeled with the word “Cancel,” but the X symbol is the correct button.

Reset the printer’s wireless settings (very important)
With the printer powered on, press and hold the red X (Cancel) button and the Wireless (📶) button together for 5 seconds.
Release when the blue wireless light starts blinking—this means the printer is in Wi-Fi setup mode.

Understand why Xfinity settings look different
Xfinity routers automatically manage 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz under one network name.
You usually won’t see separate 2.4 GHz settings, and that is normal.

Confirm Wi-Fi security compatibility
The HP Envy 5530 does not support WPA3-only security.
Most Xfinity routers use WPA2/WPA3 mixed mode by default, which is compatible—no change is usually needed.

Use HP Smart to reconnect the printer
On your phone, tablet, or computer, open the HP Smart app.
Select Add printer or Set up a new printer and follow the prompts while the printer’s blue light is blinking.

Keep the printer close to the router during setup
Place the printer within 5–6 feet of the router while connecting.
Once connected, you can move it back to its normal location.

Make sure the setup device is on the same Wi-Fi
The phone or computer running HP Smart must be connected to your home Wi-Fi, not cellular data or a guest network.
Guest networks will prevent the printer from connecting.

Check for a successful connection
When setup is complete, the blue wireless light should turn solid.
This confirms the printer is connected to Wi-Fi.

You do not need a new printer. The HP Envy 5530 is compatible with Xfinity routers, but it must have its wireless settings reset after a router replacement. Most connection failures after upgrades are caused by the printer still trying to connect to the old router.

I hope this helps.

I am still struggling to connect. Here is the report from the printer. Does that give any insights into why I cannot connect?

Thank you so much for your time.Screenshot 2026-01-24 at 10.27.33 AM.png

Hi @Teamcasi,

Thank you for the response.

I understand your HP Envy 5530 wireless test report shows the printer can see the Wi-Fi network but is still not connecting. Let’s go through a few steps to explain what this report means and what to do next.

Understand what the report confirms
Wireless On and Wireless Working both show PASS, which means the printer’s Wi-Fi hardware is functioning correctly.
The printer can see your network name (SSID), so this is not a signal or hardware failure.

Note the key failure on the report
The line “No Filtering – FAIL” is the important clue.
This means the printer is being blocked during network registration, usually by router-side security or filtering.

Address multiple networks with the same name
The report shows “Other networks detected matching your network name (SSID): Yes”.
When multiple access points or mesh extenders use the same name, older printers can fail authentication.

Power-cycle and force a fresh network handshake
Turn off the printer.
Unplug the Xfinity router (and any extenders) for 2 minutes, then power the router back on fully before turning the printer back on.

Reset the printer’s wireless setup again
With the printer on, press and hold the Cancel (red X) and Wireless (📶) buttons together for 5 seconds.
Release when the blue light blinks, confirming the printer is back in setup mode.

Temporarily simplify the Wi-Fi environment
If you have Xfinity Pods or Wi-Fi extenders, unplug them during setup.
This ensures the printer connects directly to the main router instead of a secondary access point.

Retry setup using HP Smart only
Open the HP Smart app and select Add Printer or Set up a new printer.
Make sure the phone or computer used for setup is connected to the same home Wi-Fi and not using cellular data or a guest network.

Keep the printer very close to the router
Place the printer within 3–5 feet of the router during setup.
This reduces handshake failures on older 2.4 GHz devices.

Confirm successful connection
After setup, the blue wireless light should turn solid.
Printing a new wireless report should then show Connected and a valid IP address instead of “Not applicable.”

I hope this helps.

Hi @Teamcasi,

Thank you for the response.

Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this and get the printer connected.

Reset the printer’s wireless settings
With the printer powered on, press and hold the Cancel (red X) and Wireless (📶) buttons together for 5 seconds.
Release when the blue wireless light starts blinking, which means the printer is in setup mode.

Confirm the printer supports only 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi
The HP Envy 5530 works only on 2.4 GHz networks.
Xfinity routers combine 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz under one name, which is normal and supported.

Power-cycle the entire network
Turn off the printer.
Unplug the Xfinity router (and any Wi-Fi extenders or pods) for 2 minutes, then power the router back on fully before turning the printer back on.

Temporarily remove extenders or pods
If you have Xfinity Pods or mesh extenders, unplug them during setup.
Older printers can fail when multiple access points use the same network name.

Place the printer close to the router
Move the printer within 3–5 feet of the router during setup.
This helps prevent authentication failures on older wireless hardware.

Reconnect using the HP app
Open the HP app on your phone or computer.
Select Add printer or Set up a new printer and follow the prompts while the blue light is blinking.

Make sure the setup device is on the correct network
The phone or computer running the HP app must be connected to your home Wi-Fi, not a guest network or cellular data.
Guest networks will block printer setup.

Check router security compatibility
The Envy 5530 does not support WPA3-only security.
Xfinity routers normally use WPA2/WPA3 mixed mode, which is compatible and usually does not require changes.

Interpret the wireless test report
If the report shows Wireless On: PASS and Wireless Working: PASS, the printer hardware is fine.
A failure such as “No Filtering – FAIL” indicates the router is blocking the connection during setup, not a printer fault.

Confirm a successful connection
After setup completes, the blue wireless light should turn solid blue.
A new wireless report should show Connected and a valid IP address.

You do not need a new printer. After a router replacement, this model must have its wireless settings fully reset and re-added. Following these steps resolves most Envy 5530 connection issues with Xfinity routers.

I hope this helps.
