Hi @tenkkula71
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Let’s fix this and get your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 connected to your laptop!
Commendable diagnosis, superb troubleshooting and splendid description of the issue before posting. Hats off to you on that score. 😊
Here's a detailed plan to troubleshoot the issue:
1. Verify Printer Connectivity
Check if the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your laptop:
On the printer’s control panel, navigate to Settings > Network Setup > Wireless Settings.
Confirm that it’s connected to your Wi-Fi network. Print a Network Configuration Report to verify its IP address and network status.
2. Reconnect the Printer to Wi-Fi
If the printer isn’t connected to your Wi-Fi network:
Use the Wireless Setup Wizard:
On the printer’s touchscreen, go to Settings > Network Setup > Wireless Setup Wizard.
Follow the on-screen prompts to select your Wi-Fi network and enter the password.
Alternatively, use the WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) button:
Press the Wireless Button on the printer until the light blinks.
Press the WPS Button on your router within 2 minutes.
Check the printer screen to confirm connection success.
3. Add the Printer to Your Laptop
Now that the printer is connected to Wi-Fi, add it to your Windows 11 laptop:
Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
Click Add a Printer or Scanner.
Wait for your printer to appear, select it, and follow the prompts to install it.
4. Install or Update Printer Drivers
Missing or outdated drivers could be the culprit:
Visit the HP Support website and search for your OfficeJet Pro 8710 model.
Download and install the latest drivers for Windows 11. Official HP® Drivers and Software Download | HP® Support
Restart your laptop after installing the drivers.
5. Test the Connection
Print a test page:
Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners, click on your printer, and select Manage > Print Test Page.
If the test page prints successfully, your printer is connected!
6. Use the HP Smart App
If the connection still doesn’t work:
Install the HP Smart App on your laptop.
Open the app, add your printer, and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.
7. Check Firewall or Security Settings
Ensure that Windows Firewall or third-party antivirus software isn’t blocking the connection:
Temporarily disable the firewall or antivirus to test the printer setup.
If the printer connects successfully, add it as an exception in your security software.
8. Reset the Printer
If all else fails, reset the printer to factory settings:
On the printer’s touchscreen, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore Defaults.
Reconfigure the printer and reconnect it to your Wi-Fi network.
