Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

Hello everyone,

I am going crazy here, with probably the worst printer I have ever owned.

Purchased a HP Smart Tank 580 three days ago. Did the set-up on day one and it worked fine. Day 2 and 3, it just does not want to print anymore. I have lost hours of valuable time. HP Smart app says that the connection is good and printer ready to print, but when I give the command to print a document, nothing happens. I have been trying the Wifi Direct option, also a nightmare.

Can anyone help me out? If this printer does not start working soon, I will bring it back to the shop and never buy HP again.

And oh yeah, the Customer Support telephone number in the Middle East, is a non-existing number! Great HP experience so far.....

Hi @Jakob30

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand how bad it feels as its a new HP Smarttank 580 you have installed and it was working fine for 3 days and all of the sudden it stopped working. I would request you to please follow the steps:

Step 1: Power Reset

  1. Turn off the printer.

  2. Unplug it from the wall for at least 60 seconds.

  3. Plug it back in and restart.

    • This clears temporary memory errors.

Step 2: Check Connection Method

  1. If using Wi‑Fi Direct:

    • Make sure your computer/phone is connected to the printer’s Wi‑Fi signal (not your home router).

  2. If using regular Wi‑Fi:

    • Confirm both printer and computer are on the same network.

  3. Try a USB cable connection once.

    • If USB works, the issue is wireless only.

Step 3: Reinstall HP Smart App & Drivers

  1. On your computer, open Printers & Scanners.

  2. Select your printer and click Remove device.

  3. Uninstall the HP Smart app.

  4. Reinstall the app from the Microsoft Store or Mac App Store.

  5. Alternatively, go to 123.hp.com and download HP Easy Start to reinstall drivers.

Step 4: Update Firmware

  1. Open the HP Smart app.

  2. Go to Printer Settings → Advanced → Firmware Update.

  3. Install any available updates.

    • These often fix “ready but not printing” issues.

Step 5: Test Print

  1. From the printer’s control panel, print a test page (without using the computer).

    • If the test page prints → hardware is fine, issue is software/connection.

    • If the test page does not print → likely a hardware fault, return/exchange the printer.

Take care and have an amazing day!
