@Mattnaccarato1, Welcome to the HP Support Community – it’s great to have you here!

I appreciate you taking the time to share your question. I'm more than happy to assist with this and provide a solution that works for you.

I understand you're unable to print using Wi-Fi Direct on your HP OfficeJet 5255, and the printer display shows a “?” with the blue Wi-Fi light blinking. Let's walk through the steps to resolve this.

Check Wi-Fi Direct Status

  • On the printer control panel, tap the Wi-Fi Direct icon (or go to Settings > Wi-Fi Direct).
  • Ensure Wi-Fi Direct is turned ON and set to Automatic or Manual (not Off).
  • If a “?” is showing, it may indicate the printer is waiting for a connection.

Connect iPhone to Printer’s Wi-Fi Direct

  • On your iPhone:
    • Go to Settings > Wi-Fi.
    • Look for a network like:
      DIRECT-xx-HP OfficeJet 5255
    • Tap it and enter the Wi-Fi Direct password (found on the printer screen or under Wi-Fi Direct settings).

Print from iPhone

  • Open the document or photo you want to print.
  • Tap the Share icon > Print.
  • Select the HP OfficeJet 5255 as the printer.
  • Tap Print.

If the “?” and Blue Light Persist

Try restarting both devices:

  • Power off the printer, wait 30 seconds, then turn it back on.
  • Restart your iPhone.
  • Reconnect to the Wi-Fi Direct network and try printing again.

I hope your issue is now resolved. If not, feel free to reply and we’ll continue helping until everything’s sorted!
