Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

I power cycled our Starlink router and found out I had lost connection to our devices. I got the laptops reconnected once I got the SSID squared away, but the printer will not connect. I have tried using HP Smart a dozen times and then remembered I had set up the printer with WiFi Direct. I've gone in and deleted all the files in the print spooler and deleted drivers, but don't know which option to take to reconnect the printer. Windows doesn't see the printer, but HP Smart sees it, but can't configure it.

Help, please.

Hi @elfbrewery,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Here’s how to get your HP DeskJet 2755e reconnected after the router power cycle, especially since it was originally set up with Wi-Fi Direct, and the HP app is detecting the printer but can’t configure it:

Why This Happens

  • After a router restart, the printer loses its previous SSID credentials.
  • Wi-Fi Direct only creates a temporary printer hotspot; it doesn’t reconnect automatically to your home network.
  • HP Smart sees the printer via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi Direct, but can’t complete setup because the printer isn’t on the same network as your PC.

Fix Steps

1. Reset Printer Network Settings

  • On the printer:
    • Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel (X) buttons together for 5 seconds.
    • The wireless light should start blinking. This puts the printer in Wi-Fi setup mode.

2. Use HP App to Reconnect

  • On your Windows 11 PC:
    • Make sure you’re connected to your Starlink Wi-Fi.
    • Open HP AppAdd Printer.
    • Select your printer (it should show as “Setup” or “Ready for Wi-Fi”).
    • Enter your Starlink SSID and password when prompted.

3. If HP App Still Fails

  • Temporarily connect the printer via USB cable to your PC.
  • In HP App, choose Convert to Wireless and follow prompts.
  • This forces the printer to accept the new network credentials.

4. Check Router Settings

  • Ensure the Starlink router is broadcasting 2.4 GHz (HP DeskJet 2755e does not support 5 GHz only).
  • If WPA3 security is enabled, switch to WPA2/WPA3 mixed mode in router settings.

5. Confirm Connection

  • The printer’s wireless light should turn solid blue when connected.
  • Print a Wireless Network Test Report from the printer menu to verify.
