HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer - N911a
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I believe I need to update the firmware as explained below. There is one update listed on the HP support site. When I download and run the installer, my printer appears in the dialog box, but the selection box cannot be checked.  The "status" column in the dialog box does not say "Ready." It says "Not applicable."

I believe I need the firmware update to fix a certificate problem that keeps the printer from connecting to the HP server. This is a fix identified in the update summary and is mentioned on these boards. Symptom: when I touch the ePrint icon on the printer console, it comes back with a message that it cannot connect to the server.

The printer is successfully attached to my Wifi network, and multiple computers can print to it.

The current firmware level is CKP1CN1829AR, patch version 16.

Web services is enabled, but not completely working in that when I click on the Print Info button, it churns but does not print.

Please advise.

Please use this link to download and update the firmware on your printer.

If the issue persists then please disable and enable web services on your printer.

Let's disable web services and re-enable it

--->Touch on the wifi icon ((i)) on the printer, and take down the IP address

--->Open a web browser (ex Chrome or Mozilla) and type in the printer's IP

I'm sorry, but your instructions for disabling and re-enabling Web services make no sense to me. After I disable Wifi, how can I use a Web browser to access an IP address that is no longer connected to the network?

As I said in my original post, I have tried to update the firmware multiple times without success. It always says that the status is "Not applicable."

@Tweedye,

Thank you for your response, the web service steps which I provided are supposed to be done when the printer is connected to an active Wi-Fi.

If the issue persists, please follow the steps on this document.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

The link in your first reply was not a link to new firmware. It merely reloaded my PC software.

I used the Web interface to disable Web services but was unable to re-enable them. I went to the Web services tab and clicked on the button to disable. When I tried to re-enable Web services, I got the same message I got from touching the ePrint icon on the printer. Cannot connect to the server.

My understanding is that this error is supposed to be fixed by a firmware update, which has to deal with a certificate problem. Only one firmware update is available on the HP support Web site. I can download it and execute it, but it will not update the firmware. The status column indicates "Not applicable." Does this mean there is not a fix applicable to my situation?

We have to reset the printer back to its original factory settings. The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may brick the device.

I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.
