Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Moved to a new home with a new network. Printer was not connecting to wireless network even though it was being seen by the Wireless Wizard. I performed a factory reset. After the reset, the printer only gets to the point where it shows this message: "Cartridge cannot be used until printer is enrolled in HP Instant Ink". The network indicator is not flashing and there are no "Home", "?" or "Back" lights on the left side of the control panel. I understand I could buy new non Instant ink cartridges and see if that takes me past this point. But I do have an Instant Ink subscription so I would buy new cartridges as a last resort. Any ideas on how to get past this point? I tried logging in to my Instant Ink account and doing a Refresh, but it says my printer is not connected to the internet, which is the whole problem.

I started getting the same message on an HP OfficeJet Pro 9010/9018 about a month ago but am also enrolled in the Instant Ink program.  I ran a call with the Instant Ink folks and they believe that the real problem is that the WIFI has gone out, as evidenced by the inability of the HP Smart app to communicate with the printer at all.  The blue WIFI indicator light is not lit either. The printer is only a few feet from an HP desktop and the Xfinity modem, so proximity shouldn't be an issue.  I connected an Ethernet patch cable from the modem to the printer but no still no connectivity.

I think I will log a regular call and see what HP says.  Plan to get back with what they say.

Update 2 hours later:  after entering the SN in the warranty search, I found I had an extended warranty -- either it came from Costco or I bought one at the time.  Regardless, that prompted me to open a Chat with an HP person, who after logging in to my PC and confirming that the printer WIFI was dead (always good to have a second pair of eyes, plus necessary the warranty effort) set up a  warranty replacement to be sent with a return of the old one, of course.  The replacement should be here in three days.

btw, be sure you use the HP Smart tool. Also, there is an "HP Print and Scan Doctor" which you can find at https://support.hp.com/us-en/help/printscandoctor it's a downloadable executable that may help you.
