I have a laser jet, MFPM 180 and W and I’ve had to change the network password due to a new wireless router being installed. I’ll be damned, but I literally cannot find where to change the network password. The fiber router that I have does not have a WPS button on it. You would think in this day and age it would be a one click thing to change the network password, but it isn’t. I’ve now spent an hour searching around to try to find out how to change the network password so I can use my printer again. Can anybody steer me to the right place. Thanks.

Hi @LEFTCOASTER,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To change the network password on your HP LaserJet MFP M180 printer and reconnect it to your new wireless network, follow these steps:

1. Connect Printer to New Network

Using the Printer's Control Panel

Access the Wireless Menu:

  • On the printer's control panel, press the Wireless button or navigate to the Network menu. The location of this option might vary slightly depending on your specific model.

Select Wireless Setup:

  • Choose the Wireless Setup Wizard or similar option. This will allow the printer to search for available wireless networks.

Choose Your Network:

  • From the list of available networks, select your new wireless network.

Enter the New Password:

  • When prompted, enter the new network password (Wi-Fi password). Make sure you enter it correctly, as it is case-sensitive.

Confirm and Connect:

  • Confirm the entry and wait for the printer to connect to the network. Once connected, the printer should display a message indicating a successful connection.

Using the HP Smart App (Alternative Method)

Download the HP Smart App:

  • If you haven’t already, download the HP Smart app from the HP website or your device's app store.

Add Your Printer:

  • Open the HP Smart app and follow the prompts to add your printer. The app will guide you through the process of reconnecting your printer to a new network.

Follow Instructions:

  • The app will provide instructions to select your new wireless network and enter the new password.

2. Accessing Printer Web Interface (If Required)

Find Printer’s IP Address:

  • Print a network configuration page from the printer’s control panel to find its current IP address.

Open Web Browser:

  • Enter the IP address into your web browser’s address bar to access the printer’s web interface.

Login to the Printer Interface:

  • You might need to log in (often with a default username and password; check the printer manual for details if you haven’t changed these).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Rachel, thank you for your reply. I actually got it figured out myself doing something a little different. Going into the printer set up menu. I restored it to the factory default. That’s all that I had to do then on the printer. On my Mac, I then went into system preferences to Wi-Fi, and there was the name of my network and above it was the name of the printer, so the Wi-Fi picked up what the printer was broadcasting when I clicked on the name of the printer, it asked me for the password. I entered the new password and then the printer went ahead and configured itself without any more intervention and I was done.
