Hi @Francis_M

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for reaching out—and you’re not alone in running into this after upgrading your network security. The short answer is: the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw does not support WPA3 encryption.

Why This Happens

WPA3 is a newer Wi-Fi security protocol that many older printers—including the M283fdw—weren’t designed to handle. These printers typically support:

  • WPA2-Personal (AES)
  • WPA or WEP (older and less secure)

So when your router is set to WPA3-only, the printer can’t authenticate and connect.

What You Can Do

1. Enable WPA2/WPA3 Mixed Mode on Your Router

Most modern routers offer a compatibility mode:

  • Log into your router’s admin page.
  • Look for Wi-Fi Security Settings.
  • Change the security mode to WPA2/WPA3 Mixed Mode (or “Transition Mode”).
  • Save and reboot the router.

This allows newer devices to use WPA3 while older ones (like your printer) connect via WPA2.

If my response helped, please mark it as an Accepted Solution It helps others and spreads support. 💙 Also, tapping "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" makes a big difference! Thanks! 😊

Take care, and have an amazing day!
