Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

My Chromebook won't connect to my printer when I click on print.  It has connected and printed in the past and It shows the document but nothing happens when I click on print now.  I have taken every action possible including following instructions for the same problem with another printer in a previous post.  I have a desk-top that uses Microsoft Edge and it connects with the printer and prints.  It appears the problem is with the Chromebook but I can't find where to go to get help.

Thanks

Hi @Slyltc

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for sharing your experience, and I’m truly sorry you’re facing this printing issue. It’s frustrating when everything looks ready but nothing happens—especially when your desktop prints just fine.

Your Chromebook may have lost its connection to the HP OfficeJet 8035 Pro SE. Re-adding the printer and resetting the print environment should restore functionality.

Let’s walk through a few focused steps to help your Chromebook reconnect and print smoothly again.

Step-by-Step Fix for Chromebook Not Printing

Remove and Re-Add the Printer

  • On your Chromebook, go to Settings > Advanced > Printing > Printers.
  • If your HP OfficeJet 8035 is listed, click the three dots next to it and select Remove.
  • Click Add Printer and wait for your printer to appear.
  • Select it and follow the prompts to re-add it.

Reset Chrome Print Environment

  • Open Chrome browser and type chrome://settings/reset in the address bar.
  • Scroll down and click Restore settings to their original defaults.
  • This clears any corrupted print settings that may be blocking the job.

Check Wi-Fi Connection

  • Ensure your Chromebook and printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • On the printer, press the Wireless button to confirm connection status.
  • If the light is blinking, reconnect using the HP App: HP App Setup Guide

Enable Printing from Chrome OS

  • Go to Settings > Advanced > Printing > Google Cloud Print (if available).
  • Ensure Print jobs are not stuck in the queue.
  • Try printing a simple document from Google Docs or Chrome browser to test.

Update Chromebook

  • Go to Settings > About Chrome OS > Check for updates.
  • Install any available updates and restart your device.

Use HP App for Direct Printing

  • Open the HP App on your Chromebook or mobile device.
  • Select your printer and use the Print Documents feature to bypass Chrome’s print dialog.

Thanks.  I tried all suggestions and was able to print from docs and an email page from **bleep**.  I  still was unable to print a downloaded file.

Thank you for the update, and I’m really glad you were able to print from Docs and email—that’s a great sign.

I’m sorry the downloaded file still won’t print. You’ve done everything right by trying all the steps and narrowing down the issue.

Let’s walk through a few focused actions to help your Chromebook handle downloaded files properly.

Step-by-step actions to print downloaded files from Chromebook

1. Open the file in a supported app

Downloaded files (PDFs, images, etc.) may not print directly from the Files app.

  • Open the Files app on your Chromebook.
  • Right-click the downloaded file and choose Open with.
  • Select:
    • Gallery for images
    • PDF Viewer or Chrome browser for PDFs
    • Google Docs for text files

Once opened in a supported app, press Ctrl + P to print.

2. Move the file to Google Drive

Some local files may have restricted permissions or unsupported formats.

  • Open the Files app.
  • Drag the downloaded file into your Google Drive folder.
  • Open it from Google Drive and try printing again.

This ensures the file is handled through Chrome OS’s cloud print pipeline.

3. Convert the file to PDF (if not already)

If the file is a DOCX, image, or unsupported format:

  • Open it in Google Docs or Chrome.
  • Press Ctrl + P and select Save as PDF.
  • Save it, then open the PDF and try printing.

PDF format is the most reliable for Chromebook printing.

4. Use HP App to print directly

  1. Open the HP App on your Chromebook.
  2. Tap Print Documents.
  3. Browse to the downloaded file and select it.
  4. Choose your printer and print.

This bypasses Chrome’s print dialog and uses HP’s direct print path.

Let me know how the file responds after these steps. If it still won’t print, we can test with a different file type or isolate the issue by format. You’ve done everything right by staying persistent—I’ll be here to guide you further if needed.
