@themontano, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
If your computer is having trouble connecting to your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw, you can try the following troubleshooting steps:
Check Wireless Connection
Ensure the wireless function on the printer is enabled:
- Verify that the wireless light is on. If the blue light is not lit, wireless capabilities may not be turned on. To enable wireless, access the printer panel, go to Settings, Network, and toggle Wi-Fi to "On".
- Ensure no Ethernet cable is connected to the printer, as this disables wireless capabilities.
Restart Network Devices
Often, simply restarting devices can resolve connectivity issues:
- Turn off the router, the printer, and your computer.
- Restart them in this order: first the router, then the printer, and lastly your computer.
Run Wireless Network Test
A test can help diagnose the specific wireless network issue:
- Access the printer menu, navigate to Settings > Network > Wi-Fi, and select "Wi-Fi Test Report" to print out a report with recommendations.
Check if Devices Are on the Same Network
Verify both your computer and printer are on the same network. Use the network configuration page to ensure the connectivity:
- Print the network configuration page from the printer to verify the network status.
Firewall and Security Settings
Sometimes firewall software can block printer connections:
- Temporarily disable firewall security software on your computer and attempt to access the printer.
- If this resolves the issue, adjust the firewall settings to allow communication with your printer.
Check Printer's Online Status
Ensure your printer is not set as offline: For Windows:
- Go to Start > Settings > Devices > Printers and Scanners.
- Right-click your printer and select "Use Printer Online".
For Mac OS X:
- Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Select your printer and click "Print Queue", then "Resume" if jobs are stopped.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.
