We recently upgraded our wifi with Spectrum and they required us to get a new modem and router. The new system has a 5g signal and a 2.4g signal but it decides which band each device in our home gets connects to.
My HP All-In-One desktop computer is always on the 5g band, while my new printer is on the 2.4g band. On my spectrum app I'm able to see which band all of our devices are on but I can't choose which band they go on.
Because my computer is on the 5g band and my new printer keeps connecting to the 2.4g band, I've been unable to complete the setup of the printer. I called Spectrum and they put my phone on the 2.4g band for an hour. I then attempted to finish the setup on my phone but got an error that I couldn't do that and had to complete it on a computer browser.
Spectrum said there was nothing else they could do. The support person said I could purchase a router that would split the bands so I could connect my computer to the 2.4g band and compete the setup of my computer but that seems ridiculous to me. I asked if I could get the router from them and they said that was "old technology" and they no longer offered routers like that.
Is there any way I can get my printer set up without purchasing a router that I don't need for any other purpose?

If the printer connects to the 2.4ghz band then it's network is "setup" If the laptop or desktop cannot reach the printer then the 2.4ghz connection is congested or the signal is too weak.
Can you get a status printout that shows the IP address assigned by the router to the printer? See Page 103
The network status may indicate the 2.4 or 5ghz band that is used and possibly the channel#
I was unable to get proof that the 8015 support 5ghz but network setup youtube network videos show 5ghz signals being received.
Can you log into the router and have it select a 2.4ghz channel that is clean or at least has the lesser noise? Most router show signal errors such as dripped packets. If the IP address of the printer, as shown at the modem, reveals a lot of errors then the printer needs to be moved or a different channel selected.
Possibly your ISP does not allow user access. Normally the username and password are printed on the router. If you are allowed to login try to find a better channel.
If your laptop or smartphone (or even your desktop) support bluetooth you can use HP Smart to do or verify the printer setup. Install HP Smart and pair the device to the printer. HP Smart will tell if the printer is online or not.
[edit] If you just bought this then call HP and have them schedule a tech rep to do the setup remotely.
