Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

I changed my WiFi name and PW and I cannot get my printer to connect to the new WiFi.  The printer does not appear to be able to be 'found'.  What am I doing wrong - this should be pretty simple I would think?

Hi @Sailor4x6,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It should be a simple process, but switching your printer to a new Wi-Fi network can sometimes be tricky if the printer doesn't automatically detect the new network. Here’s how to connect your HP printer to the new Wi-Fi.

Using the HP Smart App (Preferred Method)

Ensure the Printer is in Wi-Fi Setup Mode:

  • If your printer has a display, navigate to Settings > Network > Wireless Setup Wizard to choose your new network and enter the password.
  • For printers without a display, press and hold the Wireless button (or Wi-Fi icon) and the Cancel button simultaneously for 5 seconds to reset Wi-Fi settings.

Download and Open the HP Smart App:

  • Install the HP Smart App on your computer or smartphone if you haven’t already.
  • Connect your device to the same Wi-Fi network you want your printer on.

Add Your Printer:

  • Open the app and click Add Printer.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the printer to the new Wi-Fi network.

WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup)

Press the WPS Button on Your Router:

  • Locate and press the WPS button on your Wi-Fi router.

Enable WPS Mode on Your Printer:

  • Press and hold the Wireless button on the printer for 3-5 seconds until the Wi-Fi light starts blinking.
  • The printer will automatically connect to the Wi-Fi network.

Manual Network Setup (for Printers with Displays)

  1. On the printer’s display panel, go to Settings > Network Setup > Wireless Setup Wizard.
  2. Select your Wi-Fi network from the list.
  3. Enter your new Wi-Fi password and follow the prompts.

Troubleshooting if Printer is Not Found

  • Ensure the Printer is on the Same Wi-Fi: Double-check that both your printer and the device you're using to set it up are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Restart Printer and Router: Power off and restart both your printer and router.
  • Reconnect to the Default Network: If your printer has its own Wi-Fi Direct network (e.g., HP-Setup-XXXX), connect your computer/phone to it temporarily to complete the setup.
  • Reset Printer Network Settings: Reset Wi-Fi settings and start fresh:
    • Hold down the Wireless button and Cancel button for 5 seconds to reset the network.
  • Check for Software Updates: Update the firmware of the printer through the HP Smart App or the printer menu.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
