I changed my router to Linksys E5350. It is a dual-band router and I made sure to change my computer connection to the 2.4GHz. I have tried all the ways suggested on the HP website to connect my old Deskjet 2540 to this new router. The only way I haven't tried is with the USB connection, but I do not have that type of cord. When I use the HP Smart app, it gets all the way to the "Connect to WiFi" page but gets stuck on "Join the Network" and says it cannot connect to wifi. I've also tried using the WSB feature on the router with no success.
Is this router compatible with my old Deskjuet 2540? Any other suggestions?

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I understand you are facing connectivity issues with the new router.
- Are you getting any error messages or codes while connecting to the network?
- Are you able to print from other devices?
While you respond to that, let's try these steps:
Restart the router, printer, and the Mac:
- Make sure the printer and the Mac are connected to the same wireless network. Either 2.4 or 5GHz network.
- If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both networks.
- The wireless status menu on your Mac should also give us quite a lot of information that would help us identify the issue. You can press and hold the option key on your keyboard and click the WiFi icon to get detailed information.
- Also, check with your Internet service provider if your router is able to forward 'Bonjour packets'.
Bonjour locates devices such as printers, other computers, and the services that those devices offer on a local network using multicast Domain Name System (mDNS) service records. The software comes built-in with Apple's macOS and iOS operating systems.
Perform a ping test to check the connectivity:
- Obtain the IP address of the printer by clicking on the Wireless icon on the printer
- Open a new Terminal window (it's located in Applications > Utilities, or you can just start typing it in Spotlight).
- Enter “ping” followed by the IP address of the printer.
- Press Return. Press ctrl C after 10 pings
- There should be 0% packet loss, share the results in your next post.
And, also refer to the article: HP printer is offline or not responding Resolve an offline printer (Mac) By the end of the article you will be able to isolate the issue.

I wasn’t able to “ping” like you suggested. I might be entering the information incorrectly. I was able to get a printout from my printer with its IP address.
Here is the error message I’m getting. It gets stuck on the 3rd part of the HP Smart “Connect to WiFi” It says it is “getting the printer address” and then it goes to this message or the one below.
The computer is connected to the same WiFi but it seems like it jumps to the GHz 5 and the HP printer WiFi as it’s trying to connect.
The printer is also right next to the router and I tried unplugging everything and restarting everything.
So, I’m still having an issue. Thanks for the continued assistance.

I am not able to contact anyone via phone to help with my issue. It seems that my printer is too old to receive support. Please advise. I'd really like to resolve this issue and not buy an entirely new printer just because I upgrade my router.
