Hi @Euphie,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding printer's connectivity!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
No worries! Let’s get your HP DeskJet 2742e connected to your iPhone again. Try these steps:
Restart Everything
- Turn off your printer, iPhone, and Wi-Fi router.
- Unplug the printer for 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
- Restart your iPhone and Wi-Fi router.
Check Wi-Fi Connection
Your printer and iPhone must be on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Open Settings → Wi-Fi on your iPhone.
- Make sure you are connected to the correct Wi-Fi network (2.4 GHz is best).
- If your Wi-Fi changed, reset the printer’s Wi-Fi (see Step 5 below).
Check AirPrint
- Open Notes or Photos on your iPhone.
- Tap Share → Print.
- Select your printer.
- If it doesn’t appear, move to Step 4.
Forget & Reconnect Printer
- Open Settings → Wi-Fi on your iPhone.
- Tap your printer’s Wi-Fi Direct name (like “HP-Setup-2742e”).
- Tap Forget This Network, then reconnect.

Reset Wi-Fi on Printer
If your printer changed networks or isn’t connecting:
- Press and hold the Wi-Fi button and Cancel button on the printer for 5 seconds.
- The Wi-Fi light will blink—this means it’s in Setup Mode.
- On your iPhone, go to the HP Smart app → Add Printer.
- Follow on-screen instructions to reconnect.
Reinstall the HP Smart App
- Delete the HP Smart app from your iPhone.
- Download it again from the App Store.
- Open the app, sign in, and re-add your printer.
Update Printer Firmware
- Open the HP Smart app on your iPhone.
- Tap your printer → Advanced Settings → Printer Updates.
- Install any available updates.
Try Wi-Fi Direct Printing (Temporary Fix)
If your printer still won’t connect:
- Press the Wi-Fi Direct button on the printer (or Wi-Fi + Info button for some models).
- On your iPhone, go to Wi-Fi settings.
- Connect to the printer’s network (e.g., HP-DeskJet-2742e-xxxx).
- Try printing directly.
If these steps don’t work, let me know what happens when you try to print. I'll guide you further! 😊
