Color Laser Jet MFP M281fdw
when I press internet connection button in the upper R corner of the touchscreen, I see:
Wi-Fi Direct ON
Network Wi-Fi ON
HP ePrint OFF
When I press HP ePrint, I see:
”The printer is unable to connect to the service. Check the Internet connection.”
everything worked fine wirelessly before they recently changed the router & modem. Printer works ok with computer, but not with ePrint from iPhone SE2.
Thanks for help.

Hi @Deiter4,
Thank you for the reply!
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you’ve recently installed a new Wi-Fi router and modem, it sounds like the printer may not be connected to the new network, which is why HP ePrint isn't working. Here's a step-by-step guide to reconnecting your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw to the new Wi-Fi network:
Step 1: Connect Printer to New Wi-Fi Network
Reset Network Settings:
- On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup (wrench icon) > Network Setup > Restore Network Settings.
- Confirm the reset. This will clear the old network info.
Reconnect to Wi-Fi:
- After resetting, go to Setup > Network Setup > Wireless Settings > Wireless Setup Wizard.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the printer to the new Wi-Fi network. Ensure you select the correct network and enter the new Wi-Fi password.
Confirm Connection:
- After setup, the printer should show "Connected" on the Wi-Fi icon in the upper right corner of the touchscreen.
Step 2: Enable HP ePrint
- Once the printer is connected to Wi-Fi, press the HP ePrint button on the control panel.
- Follow the prompts to enable HP ePrint. If it asks to update Web Services, allow it.
- You should receive a confirmation that HP ePrint is enabled.
Step 3: Reconnect to Your iPhone SE2 for ePrint
- Make sure your iPhone is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the printer.
- Open a document or photo, select Print, and choose the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw as your printer.
- If needed, reinstall the HP Smart app from the App Store and ensure it’s set up with the printer for ePrint functionality.
Additional Troubleshooting Tips:
- Check Router Settings: Ensure the new router isn't blocking the printer from accessing the internet. You might need to adjust firewall settings or ensure that both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands are available for the printer.
- Update Printer Firmware: Check for any available firmware updates for your printer through the control panel or using the HP Smart app.
