HP ENVY 5530 e-All-in-One Printer

I just received and activated an Xfinity XB8 router in my home. Everything seems to be able to connect to the new WiFi except my old HP Envy 5530 wireless printer. The printer connected to the old Xfinity router.

The Xfinity router is configured to "WPA3-Personal Transition" by default which indicates it can connect a device using WPA3 or WPA2. The HP printer is older and older supports WPA2. I believe it should connect to the XB8 router but fails using manual or the WPS button approach. Not sure what else to try.

Do I need to purchase a new printer that supports WPA3? Thanks for any advice.

Hello SDHoliday,

Thanks for reaching out.

If you have recently upgraded to an Xfinity XB8 router and are experiencing connectivity issues with your HP ENVY 5530 e-All-in-One Printer, here are the steps to connect your printer to the new Wi-Fi network:

  1. Verify Network Settings on Router: Ensure that your router is set to support both WPA2 and WPA3 options, as the HP ENVY 5530 only supports WPA2. You may have to switch the setting to WPA2 if WPA3 was prioritized.
  2. Reset Network Settings on Printer:
    • On the printer's control panel, press the Wireless icon to open the Wireless menu.
    • Select Settings, and then select Restore Network Defaults to reset any previous configurations.
  3. Re-connect using Wireless Setup Wizard:
    • On the printer, open the Wireless menu and choose Wireless Setup Wizard.
    • The printer will search for available networks. Select your new Xfinity Wi-Fi network from the list.
    • Enter the Wi-Fi password when prompted. Ensure you enter the correct case-sensitive password.
  4. Manual Update to Printer Firmware: Sometimes, updating the printer’s firmware to the latest version can resolve connectivity issues.
    • Visit the HP website and navigate to the support section for the HP ENVY 5530 for firmware updates.
  5. Test Connection:
    • After reconnecting the printer to the network, print a wireless network test report to verify a successful connection.
