Hi @Frustraed1

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand that you’re having trouble connecting your older printer to your network after upgrading your computer to Windows 11 and getting a new modem/router. Don’t worry, let’s go through a series of steps to get your printer connected to the network.

Step 1: Reset the Printer's Network Settings

Since you’ve changed routers, your printer might still be trying to connect to the old network settings. You should first reset the printer’s network settings so it can try to connect to the new network.

Here’s how to reset the network settings (this varies slightly depending on your printer model, so check your printer’s manual for exact instructions):

  1. Power on the printer.
  2. Navigate to the menu: Look for something like Network Settings or Wireless Settings on the printer's screen.
  3. Select Restore Network Settings or Reset Network Defaults (this will remove the current network settings).
  4. The printer will reset the wireless settings and be ready to reconnect.

Step 2: Connect the Printer to the New Wi-Fi Network

Now that the printer’s network settings are reset, follow these steps to connect it to the new Wi-Fi network:

Option 1: Using the Printer's Control Panel

Most modern printers with a screen allow you to connect via the printer’s own Wireless Setup Wizard:

  1. Go to the printer's control panel.
  2. Open the wireless settings by navigating to Settings > Network > Wireless Setup Wizard (this is common on many HP printers).
  3. The printer will search for available networks. Select your new Wi-Fi network from the list.
  4. Enter your Wi-Fi password when prompted.
  5. The printer should then connect to the new network. Wait for the confirmation message to appear on the screen.

Option 2: Using WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup)

If your router supports WPS (many modern routers do), you can connect the printer using the WPS method, which simplifies the process:

  1. On your router, press the WPS button (this might be labeled as "WPS" or have a symbol that looks like two arrows forming a circle).
  2. Within two minutes, go to your printer's control panel and find the WPS option under network settings.
  3. Select WPS on the printer, and it will automatically connect to the router without needing to enter a password.

Step 3: Install the Printer on Windows 11

After successfully connecting your printer to the network, you need to add it to your Windows 11 system.

  1. Go to Settings: Press Win + I to open Settings.
  2. Select Bluetooth & Devices on the left sidebar.Click Printers & Scanners.
  3. Click Add a Printer or Scanner.Windows should detect the printer on your network and display it in the list. Select it and click Add device.
  4. If your printer is not detected, click The printer that I want isn’t listed. Follow the instructions to manually add it.

Step 4: Test the Printer

Print a test page to confirm the connection is working correctly.

Step 5: Troubleshooting

If the printer still doesn’t connect, here are some troubleshooting tips:

  • Make sure your printer is compatible with Windows 11. Check the printer manufacturer’s website for any updated drivers.
  • Restart the printer and the router if the connection is unstable or not working.
  • Update the printer drivers: Go to the printer manufacturer’s website and download the latest drivers for Windows 11

I hope this helps.
