@PhilBod, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
Power Cycle Your Printer and Router
- Turn off the printer by pressing the power button.
- Unplug the printer from the power source for about 30 seconds and then plug it back in.
- Restart your router: unplug it for about 10 seconds and then plug it back in.
- Wait for both devices to fully restart before continuing.
Reconnect the Printer to Wi-Fi
You can reconnect the printer either through the printer’s control panel or using the HP Smart app. I'll outline both methods for you:
1: Reconnect using the Printer’s Control Panel
- Turn on your printer.
- On the printer’s Control Panel, press the Wi-Fi button (it may look like a wireless icon). If your printer doesn’t have a dedicated Wi-Fi button, you’ll find the wireless settings in the setup menu.
- The printer should display the Wireless Setup Wizard. Follow the prompts to connect to your Wi-Fi network.
- Select your Wi-Fi network from the list of available networks.
- Enter your Wi-Fi password when prompted.
- Wait for the printer to successfully connect to the Wi-Fi network. A confirmation message should appear on the screen.
2: Reconnect using the HP Smart App
If the control panel method doesn’t work, you can use the HP Smart app on your smartphone or computer.
- Download and install the HP Smart app if you haven't already. You can find it on the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android) or from the HP website for Windows/Mac.
- Open the HP Smart app and make sure your smartphone or computer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network you want your printer to use.
- In the app, select Add Printer and then follow the prompts to connect your printer to Wi-Fi.
- You might be asked to enter your Wi-Fi password during this process.
3: WPS Push Button
If your router supports WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup), you can use this method to connect without needing to enter a password:
- On the printer’s control panel, press the WPS button (it may be labeled "Wireless" or "Wi-Fi Direct" on your printer).
- Within 2 minutes, press the WPS button on your router.
- The printer should automatically connect to the router, and you’ll see a confirmation on the printer screen.

Check the Printer's Network Connection
- Print a Wireless Test Report or Network Configuration Page (this can be done from the printer’s settings menu). This will show whether the printer is connected to the network properly.
- If the report shows no connection, double-check your Wi-Fi settings and repeat the steps.
Update Printer Firmware
Sometimes, outdated firmware can cause connection issues. Check if your printer’s firmware is up to date:
- You can check this in the HP Smart app or the printer’s settings menu.
- If an update is available, follow the prompts to install it.
Check Wi-Fi Network Settings
- Verify the network password is correct.
- Ensure that your Wi-Fi network is 2.4GHz, as many HP printers only work on that band (some newer printers support 5GHz, but if yours doesn’t, it won’t connect to a 5GHz network).
- Make sure your router’s firewall is not blocking the printer’s access.
Reset Printer’s Network Settings
If all else fails, you can try resetting the printer’s network settings to factory defaults:
- From the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Network Settings.
- Select Restore Network Defaults.
- After resetting, try the setup process again from step 2.
Reinstall Printer Software (if necessary)
If the printer still isn’t connecting, uninstall the printer from your computer and reinstall the software:
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers (Windows) or System Preferences > Printers & Scanners (Mac).
- Remove your HP printer from the list.
- Download the latest printer drivers and software from HP’s website.
- Reinstall the printer software and follow the prompts to reconnect to your network.
I hope these steps help resolve the issue
