HP Smart Tank 5000/5100 All-in-One Printer

I bought this printer bring told it was so easy to use… WRONG! Every time I go to print I have to reset the wifi connection spending hours trying to print the one thing I need. 99% of the time it doesn’t even end up connecting and I use a friends. This is terrible. I am incredibly frustrated with this printer and plan on buying a different brand.

Hi  @Emilu

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thank you for reaching out.

I can certainly understand how important it is to have your printer ready whenever you need it.  To help us better understand what is happening with your printer, could you kindly provide a few details?

  • Are you connecting the printer to a Windows PC, Mac, Android phone, or iPhone?
  • Does the printer disconnect from Wi-Fi after being idle, or does it never stay connected?
  • Is the Wi-Fi light on the printer solid blue, blinking blue, or off when the issue occurs?
  • Are you using a dual-band router (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), and do other devices stay connected without issues?
  • Are you receiving any specific error messages in the HP app or on your computer?

In the meantime, kindly try the following steps:

  1. Restart your printer, router, and computer/mobile device.
  2. Confirm that the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the device you are printing from.
  3. Ensure the printer is connected to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network if your router broadcasts separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks.
  4. Open the HP app and check whether the printer shows as "Ready."
  5. Update the printer firmware through the HP app if an update is available.
  6. If the printer frequently loses connection, perform a Wireless Reset:
    • Press and hold the Wireless button and Cancel button together for about 5 seconds (or until the wireless light begins blinking).
    • Reconnect the printer using the HP app.
