Hi @Brigt22,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing difficulty connecting your HP printer to a laptop, there could be several reasons for this. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the connection issues:

1. Check the Basics

  • Ensure the Printer is On: Verify that the printer is properly plugged in and turned on.
  • Check Wireless Connection: Make sure the printer is within range of your wireless router if you're using a wireless connection.
  • Review Error Lights: Check for any blinking lights or error messages on the printer's display.

2. Network Issues

  • Ensure Same Network: Confirm that both your laptop and printer are connected to the same wireless network.
  • Check Router: Restart your router by unplugging it, waiting for a few seconds, and then plugging it back in.

3. Wireless Network Setup

  • Use Wireless Setup Wizard: Press the Wireless button on your HP Photosmart printer, select Wireless Setup Wizard, and choose your network from the list. Follow prompts to complete the connection.
    • If using WPS, press the WPS button on your router and follow the instructions on the printer.

4. Software and Drivers

  • Install HP Software: Ensure that the HP printer software is installed on your laptop. This can be done by using the installation CD or downloading the latest version from the Official HP® Support.
  • Update Drivers: Check if there are any driver updates available for your printer model.

5. Firewall and Antivirus Settings

  • Adjust Security Settings: Sometimes, firewalls or antivirus programs can block printer access. Temporarily disable them to test if this resolves the issue and ensure you've allowed the printer through your security settings.

6. Test the Connection

  • Print a Test Page: After setup, try printing a test page to ensure the connection is successful.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
