My MacBook is not finding printer (only for photos) but my phone is.  When I print from phone, it is a washed out black and white instead of color.  Won’t let me add printer above but it’s a HP8755

Hi @Pjp70,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your MacBook is not detecting your HP 8755 printer for photo printing, and when printing from your phone, the output is washed out black and white instead of color. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

    a. Verify Printer Connection
Ensure the printer is powered on and connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your MacBook.
Restart the printer and your Wi-Fi router to refresh the network connection.

    b. Check MacBook Printer Settings
Go to System Settings → Printers & Scanners and see if the HP 8755 appears.
If not, click the + to add a printer and select your HP 8755 from the list.

    c. Install/Reinstall HP Drivers
Download the latest HP Easy Start or full-feature driver for macOS from HP’s website.
Follow the prompts to install and add the printer again.

    d. Check Print Settings for Color
When printing, open the print dialog and ensure Color is selected instead of Black & White or Grayscale.
Set Paper Type to a photo paper setting if applicable.

    e. Test a Direct Connection
Try connecting the printer via USB to your MacBook and see if it prints correctly in color.
This helps determine if the issue is Wi-Fi related.

    f. Update Firmware
Ensure the printer firmware is up to date using HP Smart or the printer’s control panel.

    g. Clear Print Queue
On your MacBook, go to System Settings → Printers & Scanners → Open Print Queue and cancel any stuck jobs.

I hope this helps.

My computer is recognizing the printer, but I know think it’s not understanding the ink amounts.  I use instant ink that says I have enough color but it’s not using any color.
