Unreliable Connection with HP OfficeJet 5200/5230 – Frequently Offline Despite Stable Internet

Dear Support Team,

I am experiencing recurring connection issues with my HP OfficeJet 5200/5230. The printer intermittently appears as "offline" in my device list, even though my Wi-Fi connection is stable and active at all times. Printing occasionally works, but more often than not, the printer is unreachable—making reliable use currently impossible.

I have already tried the following troubleshooting steps without lasting success:

  • Restarted the printer, Wi-Fi router, and the computer/laptop

  • Reconfigured the Wi-Fi network

  • Completely reinstalled and reconfigured the printer

  • Removed and re-added the printer to the device list

Despite these measures, the issue persists.

I kindly ask for your assistance in establishing a stable connection and ensuring the reliable operation of the printer.

Thank you in advance.

Unzuverlässige Verbindung meines HP OfficeJet 5200/5230 – häufig offline trotz stabiler Internetverbindung

Sehr geehrtes Support-Team,

Hi @LarsDuit,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We understand that you're experiencing intermittent connectivity issues with your HP OfficeJet 5200/5230 All-in-One Printer, where the printer frequently appears as "offline" despite a stable Wi-Fi connection. You've already taken commendable steps, such as restarting devices, reconfiguring the Wi-Fi network, and reinstalling the printer, but the issue persists.

To further assist you, please consider the following advanced troubleshooting steps:

1. Assign a Static IP Address to the Printer

Dynamic IP addresses assigned by routers can change over time, leading to connectivity issues. Assigning a static IP address ensures consistent communication between your printer and the network.

Steps:

  1. Print a Network Configuration Page:
    • On the printer's control panel, navigate to Settings > Network Setup > Print Network Configuration Page.
  2. Access the Printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS):
    • Open a web browser on your computer.
    • Enter the printer's IP address (found on the Network Configuration Page) into the address bar and press Enter.
  3. Set a Manual IP Address:
    • In the EWS, go to the Network or Networking tab.
    • Select Wireless (802.11) > IPv4 Configuration.
    • Choose Manual IP, then enter an IP address within your router's range but outside its DHCP range to prevent conflicts.
    • Enter the Subnet Mask and Default Gateway as listed on the Network Configuration Page.
    • Click Apply to save the settings.

Note: After assigning a static IP, update the printer settings on your computer to reflect this change.

2. Disable IPv6 on the Printer

Some networks experience compatibility issues with IPv6, which can affect printer connectivity.

Steps:

  1. Access the Printer's EWS:
    • As described above, enter the printer's IP address into a web browser.
  2. Navigate to Network Settings:
    • Go to the Network or Networking tab.
    • Select Advanced Settings.
  3. Disable IPv6:
    • Uncheck or toggle off the IPv6 option.
    • Click Apply to save changes.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
