Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

I have an Envy 6400 printer that had been connected to the same Wi-Fi address for years. Today it will not work unless I connect to the HP Direct Wi-Fi . I use the printer from an app on my iPad / IPhone. I have tried turning printer on/off, turning router on/off, deleting and reinstalling app, deleting and reinstalling printer.  The printed info says the printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi and everything is as it should be. It will work when I print an item s annex from my phone but nothing else. Any ideas.

Hi @Benijofar5,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy 6400 printer is requiring a connection through HP Direct Wi-Fi, yet appears to be connected to the correct Wi-Fi network, it indicates a potential connectivity or configuration issue. Here’s how you can troubleshoot and resolve the problem.

Verify Network Connection:

  • Make sure your printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network and not the HP Direct Wi-Fi.
  • Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer's control panel to confirm which network it is connected to.

Check Wi-Fi Connection on iPad/iPhone:

  • Ensure that your iPad or iPhone is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your printer.
  • Avoid connecting your device to the printer’s HP Direct Wi-Fi unless specifically required for direct printing.

Reset Network Settings on Printer:

  • On your Envy 6400 printer, go to the Wireless, Network, or Setup menu and select to restore network settings. This action can help reset any incorrect settings.

Reconfigure Wi-Fi Network Settings:

  • Use the Wireless Setup Wizard on your printer’s control panel to reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network. Ensure to select your home network and enter the Wi-Fi password correctly.

Update Printer Firmware:

Router Settings:

  • Check your router settings to ensure that there is no MAC address filtering enabled, which may block the printer’s connection.
  • If your router has Dual-Band capability, ensure the printer is connected to the same frequency band as your mobile device.

HP App:

  • Make sure the HP app on your iPad/iPhone is the latest version. Reinstall the app if necessary and try reconnecting the printer through the app.

Power Cycle All Devices:

  • Turn off your iPad/iPhone, wireless router, and printer. After a brief pause, turn your wireless router back on. Once it’s fully operational, turn your printer on, and then your mobile device.

These steps should help you to re-establish a stable connection between your HP Envy 6400 printer and your Wi-Fi network.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
