I have the HP 2700 wireless printer. After my modem got its wires cut, and then replaced. I have not been able to reconnect my printer. I have done everything that I have been told to do and I still can’t get it to connect to my printer

Hi @swanjs77,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

It is very common for an HP DeskJet 2700 to lose its connection after a modem replacement because the printer is still searching for the "identity" (SSID and password) of your old hardware. Even if you named the new network the same as the old one, the printer needs to have its previous network memory cleared before it will accept the new connection handshake from the replacement modem.

  1. Reset the Printer’s Network Memory
    • Confirm the printer is powered on and the carriage is silent.
    • Press and hold the Wireless button and the Cancel button (the "X") at the same time for exactly five seconds.
    • Release both buttons once the Power button light starts to flash.
    • Wait for the blue Wireless light to pulse, which confirms the printer is in "Setup Mode" and ready to learn the new modem's credentials.
  2. Refresh the HP Smart App Connection
    • Open the HP Smart app on your mobile device or computer.
    • Right-click (or long-press) the icon of your printer and select "Forget" or "Hide Printer" to remove the old, broken connection entry.
    • Ensure your phone or computer is connected to the new Wi-Fi signal provided by the replacement modem.
    • Tap the Plus sign (+) in the app to begin a fresh search for the printer now that it is in Setup Mode.
  3. Complete the New Wi-Fi Handshake
    • Select your HP DeskJet 2700 from the list of found devices in the app.
    • Enter the new Wi-Fi password for your replacement modem when prompted.
    • Watch the printer's control panel; if the Information ("i") button starts flashing, press it once to authorize the connection.
    • Wait for the Wireless light on the printer to turn solid blue, indicating a successful link to the new modem.

You can find further details on reconnecting after hardware changes in the HP official guide for Wi-Fi connection restoration.

Is the blue Wireless light on your printer currently blinking or is it completely off?

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀

Best regards,

Kuroi_Kenshi
