HP Envy 6155e All-in-One Printer

My 6155e keeps losing WiFi connection. I have reset my modem several times as well as my printer. I moved my printer close to the modem and still it loses WiFi signal. I’m not computer savvy so this makes it even more frustrating. I set up my printer using my iPad  thinking that might be the problem but my old hp envy 4520 never had any problems and I wished I’d never got rid of it. Can someone help me out

Distance and obstacles are generally more of a factor when connecting on the 5GHz frequency.

Remember that "too close" is a thing -- About six feet or more between the printer and router is better than having the printer jammed up right next to the router.

User Guide – HP Envy 6100e Series – HP Envy 6500e Series

After distance and obstacles are eliminated as causing the loss of connection, look to other reasons why the printer will not stay connected to your network.

First,

If the printer will not or cannot use 5GHz, move the connection over to the 2.4GHz frequency / band.

HP Envy 6100e -- Standard connectivity

1 Hi-Speed USB 2.0 (device); 1 Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, dual band

Next,

The printer might drop off the network because of one and more of the following:

  • Too many simultaneous users / connections to the printer.  If not sure, limit the number of "same time" users to no more than three.
  • The printer might benefit from -- or need -- a manual / static IP address assignment.   This should be set up on both the printer and on your router.  Note →   Make sure the IP address matches on both printer and router.
  • The printer should be running the latest firmware.
  • Read your router's logs -- if the router is aware of connection issues, these might show up in the logs when (for example) the printer or another device tries to connect or has difficulties related to connecting.
  • Make sure both your mobile device -- or your computer -- and the printer are on the same network.  This has naught to do with whether the printer stays connected to your network but everything to do with whether your devices can contact -- and work with - your printer.  -- Hint -- Check that your phone / tablet are on your local network and not connected to your "data line"

EWS - Network - IPv4

Example – Alternate EWS format (Select newer printers and select Laser Printers)

Open your Browser

Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Section Network > Primary Ethernet

Check / Adjust Status > IPv4

OR

Check / Adjust IP Config > IPv4

OR

Open your Browser

Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Section Network > Wi-Fi > Section IP Config > IPv4

Notes

  • It is not mandatory that you use a manual / static IP address.  Doing so can improve stability.
  • If needful and if supported, set the Band Frequency to the frequency you want the printer to use.
  • If you assign a manual / static address on the printer, update your router to reflect the assigned IP address.
  • EWS sections might be locked and require the printer’s PIN number to access.  Find the printer’s default PIN inside the ink cartridge ink cartridge / area, or perhaps on the bottom or back of the printer.  Check your printer’s User Guide first chapter for details – search the document for “ PIN “.
