I have an OfficeJet Pro 8600 (but HP site will not accept the serial number) and a LaserJet M102w.
Both printers constantly have connectivity issues.
The OfficeJet clearly says it's connected to my wifi. My computer is connected to wifi.
The HP utility will show the printer is online, but as soon as I hit "print" it goes offline.
I have restarted both printer and computer multiple times, pushed the button on my router
and I cannot consistently print.
The laser printer also has connectivity issue telling me it's offline even though the wifi
symbol is solid blue.
How can both say they're connected and yet not be? It's maddening.

Hi @janep,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I understand that you are facing connectivity issues. I’d like to help!
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Make sure, your printer and your device are on the same network as 2.4GHZ only.
Reset your printer back to Network Defaults. Then run the Wireless Setup Wizard to connect. Both can be accessed from the front panel or computer. If no front panel for configuration, you must use your Printer USB cable to connect. You can also try the WPS method if your router/printer only supports this if the Wizard or Printer USB cable is unavailable. Read your User Guide for info.
* Wireless printers only connect to the 2.4G band in your router. The router must have the 2.4G SSID band enabled with a different SSID name than the 5.0G SSID band in your router.
* Set router to a fixed wireless channel like 1, 6, or 11, never ‘auto’. Try channel 1 first then the others one at a time.
* Make sure the printer and router are at least 5 feet apart.
* Make sure IPv6 is disabled in the printer.
Make and model of the modem and router?
However, if you have a Gateway (modem+router) device, all Gateway devices are terrible for wireless connectivity. If it works, it works. If it doesn’t… suggest you think about putting that gateway device in full bridge mode and installing your own high-quality router that YOU have complete control over.
Or you may also try the below steps
Option 1 - Run HP Print and Scan Doctor
- Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor application to identify and solve errors. You can find this special version that’s designed to resolve offline issues by clicking this link.
- Open the application called HPPSdr.exe by clicking it from the download location and allowing it to run. You may need to be in administrator mode to do this
- If you are prompted, choose Yes to trust the file source because it comes directly from the HP tech support team
- Click Start and choose your printer
- If your printer is not listed, restart your printer, then click Retry in the Print and Scan Doctor application
- The application will identify potential connection issues. Follow the prompts and click Yes if asked to turn on printer updates
- Continue through the prompts and click Yes if asked to make this printer the default printer
Did these instructions help you? You’ll know it worked if your printer status changed from “offline” to “online.
Update drivers to the latest by selecting your current OS. Click here and install HP easy start
For laserjet printers Update the Firmware
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
