HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 All-in-One Printer

After upgrading my network ATT gateway the printer randomly prints until the paper is empty in the tray and prints very weird little bits of non-specific words and numbers I have already done the basic things of shutting it down, disconnecting making sure no print jobs etc. It will print normal then after a certain period of time it just starts printing again for no reason.

@ChuckGreek, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Random Printing Issues with HP OfficeJet Pro 8710!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

This issue seems to be related to the network or communication setup between your printer and the new ATT gateway. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

Step 1: Update Printer Firmware

Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. This can resolve many communication issues. You can check for updates and install them via the printer menu or the HP support website.

Step 2: Reconfigure Network Settings

Since you upgraded your network gateway, reconfiguring the network settings on your printer might help.

  1. Reset Network Settings: Go to the printer's control panel, navigate to the network settings, and choose the option to restore network settings to default.
  2. Reconnect to Network: Reconnect your printer to the new ATT gateway, ensuring you enter the correct network credentials.

Step 3: Disable Wireless Direct

Sometimes having Wireless Direct enabled can cause duplicate network connections. Disable Wireless Direct if it is not needed:

  1. On the printer control panel, go to Setup > Network Setup > Wireless Direct and turn it off.

Step 4: Check for Conflicting IP Addresses

A common issue after changing network hardware is conflicting IP addresses. Ensure that your printer has a unique IP address.

  1. Access your router settings from a web browser.
  2. Ensure no other device has the same IP address as your printer.

Step 5: Reset Printer to Factory Settings

If the problem persists, you may need to reset the printer to factory defaults. This will remove any corrupted settings that might cause random printing.

  1. On your printer, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore or Reset.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the reset.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
