Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

Hi!

I'm losing it... I have that issue with the printer constantly disconnecting from the Wifi network. At most it might manage to keep itself online for maybe 12 hours, never more than that. ...and I find it pretty amazing that there seems to be no clear solution to this. This is OBVIOUSLY a common HP printer issue but still no official solution or fix. I've had this issue for years now and I've tried everything to fix it:

- Reset WiFi settings.

- Re-cnnect to same Wifi network.

- Connect to another Wifi network.

- Connect through 2.4GHz only.

- Connect through 5GHz only.

- Pinging the printer once a minute from another machine to keep the connection alive.

But no... And apart from being annoying, as I have to turn on the printer every time I want to print, this also mess up the Instant Ink reporting.

So... Is there an actual solution to this issue apart from the obvious "have your tried turning it off and on again"?

Hi @DoktorLawin

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing the details of what you have already tried. I understand the concern with the DeskJet 2720e disconnecting from the wireless network and the impact it has on usage and Instant Ink reporting.

Let’s go through structured steps recommended to help stabilize the connection:

Step 1: Update Printer Firmware

  • Ensure the printer firmware is up to date.
  • On the printer control panel, press and hold the Wireless button until the light blinks.
  • Open the HP App on your Windows or Mac device, go to Printer Settings > Advanced Settings > Tools > Printer Updates, and install any available updates.

Step 2: Assign a Manual IP Address

  • Open the HP App and select your printer.
  • Go to Advanced Settings > Network > Wireless (802.11).
  • Select Manual IP and assign an IP address outside your router’s DHCP range. This helps prevent the printer from losing its lease.

Step 3: Router Settings Check

  • Ensure the router is set to 2.4 GHz band for the printer, as this band is more stable for many HP printers.
  • Disable “Auto Channel Switching” if available, and set a fixed channel (1, 6, or 11).
  • Make sure the router firmware is updated.

Step 4: Run Diagnose & Fix Tool

  • Open the HP App on your computer.
  • Select your printer, then go to Printer Settings > Diagnose & Fix.
  • Follow the guided steps to automatically detect and resolve connectivity issues.

Step 5: Reconfigure Wireless Connection

  • Restore network defaults on the printer by pressing and holding the Wireless button until the light blinks.
  • Use the HP App to reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.

Summary:
The recommended approach is to update the printer firmware, assign a manual IP address, check router settings, and use the Diagnose & Fix tool in the HP App. These steps are designed to improve wireless stability and ensure the printer remains consistently connected.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
