Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

Microsoft Windows 11

My HP DeskJet 4155e spit out some gears, so I drove for an hour to buy a DeskJet 2800e just to find out it will NOT wireless connect with my Aspire XC-830 computer running Windows 11.

It will 'find' it with a USB cable, but I cannot finish setup and cannot print (HP Instant Ink program) without printer connecting to internet.

I hot spot from my cell phone to my computer for internet - no other Wi-Fi available.

The printer pop up says my computer internet is running 5 GHz Wi-Fi, and the DeskJet 2800e will only run on 2.4GHz Wi-Fi.

The printer will not connect to my cell phone either.

Oddly, the DeskJet 4155e isn't supposed to run on 5GHz either, but mine always worked great.

Is there any way to resolve this (in VERY simple terms please) or am I going to have to make that trip again tomorrow - and if I do need a different printer, how do I know which one will run on 5GHz ???

Box for new one said NOTHING about that!

Thank you.

EDIT TO ADD: It looks like I have to have a printer that uses 802.11ac (Wi Fi 5) and those will allegedly run on my 5 GHz.
Hope that's true... there seems to be eight different HP printers that use that...of course they run between $120 and $210

Welcome to the HP Community --

DeskJet printers are all entry-level devices.

Some models are a bit more "entry-level" than others.

All DeskJet printers include limitations -

For example, a common feature --

  • The printer requires a larger margin along the bottom edge.
  • Borderless is not supported.

What about the network?

Open and check the User Guide for the printer -

Look for how to connect the printer to your network.

Check whether the printer mandates 2.4GHz as the only connection option.

Examples

User Guide - HP DeskJet Plus 4100e All-in-One Series

NOTE: The printer supports connections using 2.4GHz or 5GHz .

User Guide - HP Deskjet 2800e DeskJet 4200e All in One Series

NOTE: The printer only supports 2.4GHz connection.

=========================

Wi-Fi Direct

Both model types, in fact, most if not all DeskJet printers support Wi-Fi Direct.

If you cannot configure your network router to support both 5GHz and the 2.4GHz required by the 2800e model,

And

If you do not need the printer to be connected to the Internet / Web Services (Instant Ink, Remote Printing, HP+ service),

Then

Consider

HP printer setup (Wi-Fi Direct)

Reference - Printer - Margins

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Important

DeskJet printers do not support Borderless

and

DeskJet printers require a larger margin along the bottom edge of the paper

These limitations impact how content is printed on paper.

This DeskJet printer requires a larger margin along the bottom edge (1/2 inch).

Borderless PrintingNo
Print Margin Bottom (A4)12.7 mm
Print Margin Left (A4)3 mm
Print Margin Right (A4)3 mm
Print Margin Top (A4)3 mm

There is no software, firmware, or alignment that changes the larger margin requirement.

The solution to "chopped off" is to keep all data inside of 1/2 inch / 12.7mm on the bottom edge.

This limitation includes all text, images, page numbers, footer information, cells, tables, lines, other notations, and all file types, too.

Create your original document with 12.7mm ( 1/2 inch ) margins.

Thank you.

This part ""User Guide - HP DeskJet Plus 4100e All-in-One Series   The printer supports connections using 2.4GHz or 5GHz"" is exactly what I needed to know, now I have to return the 2800 and get a 4100.

I will try the HP Printer setup (Wi-Fi Direct) first - I do have HP Ink, but I need a working printer this week.

""If you do not need the printer to be connected to the Internet / Web Services (Instant Ink, Remote Printing, HP+ service)"".
