This printer was previously on my wifi. I've done all the resetting and reconnecting to HP smart app. I've gotten to the point I have to use the USB into my computer because it won't connect to my wifi again. But I prefer using the Wifi. If someone can help. I've tried everything.

Hi @shy14

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP DeskJet 4155 is stuck saying "the Wi-Fi setup is taking too long" and refuses to reconnect to your Wi-Fi, despite following various steps to reset it and reconnect via the HP Smart app, it can be frustrating. Let's go through a series of troubleshooting steps to help you get the printer connected back to your Wi-Fi.

1. Ensure the Printer is Ready for Wi-Fi Setup

Make sure that the printer is in Wi-Fi setup mode:

  • Reset Wi-Fi Settings:
    • Press and hold the Wi-Fi button on the printer for about 5 seconds (the Wi-Fi light should start blinking).
    • Press the Information button (it may look like a small "i").
    • This should trigger the printer to print a Network Configuration page.

If this doesn't work, proceed with the following steps.

2. Verify the Wi-Fi Network

  • Check Wi-Fi Details:
    • Ensure that your Wi-Fi network is 2.4 GHz and not 5 GHz (most printers, including the HP DeskJet 4155, connect better to 2.4 GHz networks).
    • SSID Name: Verify that your router's SSID (network name) is broadcasting and isn't hidden. Also, ensure there are no special characters or spaces in the Wi-Fi name.
    • Wi-Fi Password: Ensure the Wi-Fi password is entered correctly and is not too complex (avoid special characters if possible).

3. Use the HP Smart App for Setup

Since the HP Smart app is designed to make the setup process easy, ensure you follow these steps:

Download the Latest Version of HP Smart:

  • Ensure you have the latest version of the HP Smart app installed on your smartphone or computer.

Re-add the Printer:

  • Open the HP Smart app and select Add Printer.
  • The app should automatically search for your HP DeskJet 4155.
  • When prompted, select your Wi-Fi network and enter the Wi-Fi password.

Allow Time for Connection:

  • If the app still says "taking too long," give it a couple of minutes and ensure your phone or computer is close to the printer during setup to reduce any connection delays.

4. Check Router Settings

  • Restart the Router:
    • Power cycle your router by unplugging it for 10-15 seconds, then plug it back in. This can clear any network issues that might be interfering with the printer.
  • Router Settings:
    • Ensure your router is not using MAC address filtering, which can block new devices from connecting to the network.
    • DHCP Settings: Ensure your router’s DHCP server is enabled. This automatically assigns IP addresses to connected devices.
  • Reboot Printer and Router:
    • After restarting the router, reboot your printer as well. Power it off, wait 10 seconds, and turn it back on.

5. Connect via WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup)

If your router supports WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup), you can use it to connect your printer directly to the Wi-Fi without manually entering the password:

  1. Press the WPS button on your router.
  2. Within 2 minutes, press and hold the Wi-Fi button on the printer until the Wi-Fi light begins blinking.
  3. The printer should automatically connect to the Wi-Fi network.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
