I have a Deskjet 2800e series printer. My apartment complex installed their own internet, and now I can't connect my printer. The HP Smart app tells me the password is wrong, but I know it's not.

Hi @TheDaddyDude

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for explaining the situation—it's understandably frustrating when your printer refuses to connect after a network change, especially when you're confident the password is correct.

This issue often stems from how HP printers store Wi-Fi credentials and how they handle new networks.

Here’s a structured path to help you reconnect your HP DeskJet 2800e series printer:

Step-by-Step Fix for Wi-Fi Connection Issues

1. Reset the Printer’s Network Settings

This clears old Wi-Fi credentials and prepares the printer for a fresh setup.

  • Press and hold the Wireless button and the Cancel (X) button together for 5 seconds.
  • Wait until the Wireless light starts blinking—this indicates the printer is in setup mode.

2. Reconfigure Using HP Smart App

  • Open the HP Smart app on your phone or PC.
  • Tap Add Printer and select your DeskJet 2800e.
  • When prompted for Wi-Fi credentials, manually enter the new network name and password.
  • Ensure your device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network during setup.

3. Check Router Settings

Some apartment-managed networks use:

  • Guest isolation, which blocks communication between devices.
  • MAC address filtering, which prevents new devices from joining.

If possible:

  • Ask your building’s IT team to confirm that your printer is allowed on the network.
  • Provide your printer’s MAC address (found on the info sheet or EWS).

4. Use Wi-Fi Direct as a Temporary Workaround

  • On the printer, press the Information button to print a network info sheet.
  • Look for Wi-Fi Direct name and password.
  • Connect your device directly to the printer’s Wi-Fi Direct network.
  • Open HP Smart and print without needing the apartment’s Wi-Fi.

You’ve already taken the right steps—let’s make sure your printer connects reliably in your new setup.
