My print dialogue indicates my printer's certificate is expired. The solution indiacates to use a Windows system. I cannot reach the EWS for my printer on my MacBook. I do not have a WIndows computer. Are there options to update the certificate on Mac?

@Diane4974, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

To update the certificate for your HP Smart Tank 7301 on a Mac, follow these steps to access the Embedded Web Server (EWS) through your browser and resolve the certificate issue:

Connect to Printer IP:

  • Print a Network Configuration or self-test page to obtain your printer's IP address.
  • Make sure your printer is connected to the same network as your Mac.

Access the EWS:

  • Open a web browser on your Mac.
  • Type the IP address of your printer into the browser's address bar and press Enter. This should take you to the Embedded Web Server (EWS) page of your printer.

Update Firmware and Certificate:

  • Once you access the EWS, look for the Firmware Update or Security tab.
  • Download and install the latest firmware or security updates available for your printer model. The firmware update should automatically renew the certificate if it is linked to an outdated firmware version.

Re-enable Web Services:

  • If instructed, you might need to turn off Web Services temporarily and then turn them back on to refresh the printer's certificate.

I hope this helps.

I have followed all of those instructions multiple times. Every time I attempt to connect to the EWS, I get the message that the EWS is not available.

I will attempt to address the issue when I have access to a Windows laptop when my son is home with his computer.

Hey @Diane4974, thank you for your response

The expired certificate issue is not limited to just Windows computers, but accessing the printer's EWS (Embedded Web Server) can sometimes be more straightforward on a PC.

Once you have access to your son's laptop, please try the following steps on that device:

Check the printer's connection: Make sure your printer is properly connected to your network.

Open the EWS: Try accessing the EWS page by typing the printer's IP address in a web browser (e.g., http://<printer-ip-address>).

Clear the expired certificate: If you're still facing issues, follow the instructions I sent earlier to clear or update the expired certificate, and let me know how it goes.

Also, kindly refer to the guide i had shared earlier.

I hope this helps.
